Hello everyone,
This is my first attempt in ZBrush. I used to fiddle with the program since a long time, but thought about making something concrete this time round.
I want to texture this fella, and I need suggestions on how to go about it.
Also, I wanted to know whether there is any way to create hair in ZBrush which can be edited alongwith the model (not just one view that is)
Thanks :)

Hey Joe!
Thanks for the reply. Yes, there are a lot of issues, especially because my study of anatomy isn't good and also because I didn't use any references. I just went on sculpting from the basic Zsphere.
If there are any other things that come to your mind, please let me know. It's better to change them and then proceed for texturing.

For the hairs try the recent Cwahl Method (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=015570) :)

Hello again,
The hair tutorial is excellent! I wanted to provide short hair, but that's for later :p
I made a few changes to the original model....I don't want to work on it too much now because I want to devote some time to texturing. (I still have a few problems with modelling, especially when it comes to the difficult parts like the ear and nose :( ). Here is the result :

I also applied a basic skin material and tried out the best render to see how it looks :

Was this done with zspheres?

welcome Delnaja,
lots of detail in model :tu: and if you increase the subdivision surface resolution
in the tool modifiers(thats a fifty cent word)to about 8 0r 10 those facet lines around the chin area will not be visable.
take care and have fun ;)
p.s also try doubling your document
before placing model to canvas and use aahalf
before you export for a crisp image.

Neilford,
Yes, this was made using a basic zsphere. Since I do not understand polygons and other 3d details too well, I just went on sculpting like I would sculpt on clay - pushing and pulling. Hence, you might find a lot of mistakes in the model, especially at the edges. I tried to hide those mistakes by using the smooth brush repeatedly before sculpting at a higher subdivision level. Here are the steps for the model :

Gary,
Thanks for the advice. However, won't a subdivision level of 8 to 10 kill my PC during texturing and rotating??? I do have P4 2.4 with 1 gig of RAM, but even at a subdivision level of 6, the movement gets slightly slow. Please advise what to do

you have that facet for too reasons:

Zbrush by default is on "Quick 3D edit" (press "F" to switch On or Off the Q3D edit)

else, you can improve the display smoothing by that methode (see my post) display smoothing (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=013696)

with Z2 you'll find that in :

Tool > Display property >>> "Dsmooth" and "Dres" sliders.

Hey man nice job! Especialy for the for your first real try. I have the same problem, only 1 gig of ram and things bog down at subD 6.

A little hint for future efforts; give him a Zsphere neck and try to distribute his face polys evenly. The stretching of the lower mesh to make the neck is making your mesh a little thin around the chin. Extra polys to start with (via a few extra zspheres should remedy this. I came up with pretty smooth results even at SubD 6.

Good job! Hope this helps.

Always astonished to see the first and the last ! Cool first try !
Maybe the next time a little script ? :)
