I'm just getting started with ZBrush and although the possibilities are exciting the process of moving, rotating and scaling is frustrating the hell out of me due to the lack of viewports. Is there ANY WAY of getting something resembling viewports in ZBrush????? I'm a Maya user.

There was a script for 1.5 called quadquick - this might still work in v2 ?
you will find it Here (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=008417)

It might frustrate you at first, but give it a try plain ol' Zbrush style for a while. I think it'd grow on you.
also, if you hold down the shift key while rotating the view..the model will snap to the orthogonal view that you are familiar with
actually a very nice workflow

Exactly. ;) :tu:
i'm also a maya user and i was totally frustrated when getting into touch with zbrush for the very first time (a few days ago, hehehe)...BUT i must admit that i began appreciating the lack of viewports the more i became accustomed to it! Zbrush rules!!!

Thnx a lot guys, I am slowly but surely getting used to the way ZBrush works...and I also got this script that allows for pseudo-viewport manipulation. I am liking it a lot. Still trying to decipher the way the z-spheres work as far as the spacing/density is concerned....all in all I think ZBrush is bad ass :))))

You have the Moldy (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=013422) script who give the 6 traditional view :)
If Zbrush has the same functions than Maya it should be called "Maya" :D

Sort of on the same topic.
Is there a way to lock the rotate so it only goes horizontal or vertical?
Sometimes I just want to spin the model all the way around on the x axis.

I have to agree with your original statement. I don't think the ZBrush interface is very intuitive at all. I would go so far as to say that it seems buggy (try to rotate a mesh and then move it, it will snap back to its original orientation). I've been a video game artist for over 8 years and I've worked with most of the professional 2d and 3d apps available and there's always a learning curve, that's to be expected, but ZBrushe's interface and navigation controls are atrocious. I'm sure I'll get used to it after using it for a while. And I will keep using it because it can do some pretty amazing things that no other program can do (that I'm aware of) but as soon as I find an alternative, my ZBrush days are numbered.

Hi mark
<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR> (try to rotate a mesh and then move it, it will snap back to its original orientation) <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
It just because you don't know how make :)
After the rotation
Gyro Move : clic and drag on the external circle = move in the present orientation :)
Say "Atrocius" Interface is maybe some excessive
