::Okay folks, its time to dust off the skills and get things pumping again. We are going to try and help everyone with their problem areas and the subject is in preparation for the coming halloween challenge in October.
We will be working on everything and anything that needs polishing so your halloween pics can be uber! ;) Zspheres, projection master displacement and/or texturing..you name it. Check back to this post for links to other thread, inspiration, zscripts, or whatever else helps to understand how to get the job done.

::Native Zbrush models or low poly imports! Thats right. We will also allow imports to see what you all can do to them with Z.

::Wireframes, progression Modeling, and/or screenshots of your progress. This helps others to see workflow. Models, ZScripts, and other support materials are always welcome.

::Time Limit is the month of September. Remember, this is prep for Halloween! =)

::Nobody is too good or not good enough. This is open to everyone.

:: Add a [Gallery Entry] text below your gallery entry.

Don't forget, if you wish to provide support material, by all means, upload zscripts, materials lighting setups or whatever you feel will help others.

here's a link to a thread that deals with a couple of approaches to hair - there's some single strand stuff there too.

PS i left the hair bit for what it is right now...maybe ill include some in my texture later ,but first i guess i need some practise on hair.
ill keep updating as the model progresses so i can see the improvements (hopefully  ) and i thought it might be nice for u guys to see as well.
please give me some comment on my model since it is my first, comments also help a lot to keep me inspired.

ron m thanx anyways for the tip i read your tutorial, pretty handy!!

Really nice entries guys. I will make a script on how I made this model's hair if you are interested in this type of approach.

http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200406/user_image-1087451502yes.jpghttp://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200406/user_image-1087451512cju.jpg

Then there is the fur shader which does its magic during best render.

This is a second option...let me know.

Very nice character.

Wowzah! Some great entries so far! I really like the wolf and zombie. Would be nice to see them in AA Half mode to get rid of the rough, unsmoothed edges.

[Mahlikus] Your model looks like DATA off Star Trek! Very impressive though, what lighting rig and shaders did you use for him? They look so soft and silky!

Oh wow! The strangest thing happened. I decided to try and create a monster despite the fact that they are not really my thing. But I haven't missed a challenge yet so I wasn't about to miss this one. I modelled the head from a regular sphere, textured it using Projection Master.

monster-head1.jpg

So I went on to see if I could do the eyes using Projection Master as well. They almost came out right. I used spheres and texture to create the eyes just as I would if I were doing a picture, and set them in. I then went back into regular mode, the eyes flattened but I could likely fix that by increasing the poly count and density of the spheres so they wouldn't collapse (Ihope). Anyhow what is so weird, is that no matter how I position the head, the eyes always seem to be looking at you. It is as if I was repositioning them each time I change the head position. Freaked me right out!

greenmonster-a.jpg

Anyhow this is just a work in progress got to get the rest of him done. Any comments would be appreciated.

:)

OK finished with the image... its simple but I like it ...
Now about that previous threat and the cool bg and shader... well guys I thought u were joking but I guess I was wrong...
:b1: All u need to do is to set any background with a glowing material.
:b1: Pick any color for that same background .
:b1: Create a new layer.
:b1: Bring your model into the background and u get that effect.

another 1 for the creaturama

ive added the z-script so you can see how this model was built from scratch!!!
copy all files from the file to your z-scripting folder.
just run the session z-script. when the first part stops click the 2nd button once to proceed. when asked to pick a colour choose dark brown!!!

The main reason for adding this script is so other people from all over the world can edit and improve this model.... HAVE FUN!!!

Howdy.

No one seems to comment in the main thread, so I thought it might fit in here.

Character made in Zbrush (1/2 hr).
Rigged/Posed/Rendered in Maya(3 days).
Resized in Photoshop.

Playing around with everything including the kitchen sink. I can't wait until I can afford the program; each new thing i learn convinces me of the potential of this program. If I can put all the little pieces together! It's a little dark, but as I learn this program I want to keep the post work non-existent to force me to learn zBrush's limits, or non-limits, as the case may be. Thank you for making the demo available!

Here's something I whipped up in Z-Brush from a sphere. :b3: I haven't been using the program that long yet, but I'm already liking it. :tu: This model was done with regular sculpt tools with a bit of Projection Master thrown in as well. Rendered in Max using Brazil.

I really like this a lot. The teeth look like candy corn in a way, which is really creepy and charming all at the same time. I also l ike the waxy look to the texturing. Modeling is kicking my behind. I sculpt real life. I don't know why this is so hard for me!

Hey thanks for the comments...I appreciate the feedback. Yup, it's certainly in the style of Tim Burton..that's what I was thinking..and I am a huge fan of Nightmare Before Christmas. ;) I plan to add a skinny stylized body too at some point, and possibly a bit of vine for the stem. I'm definitely inspired a lot by the great work I've seen on this forum as well. What a great tool Z-Brush is.

These challenges are fun!

punkinhead-full.jpg

I'm working on the Punkinhead body now. I built a basic form in MAX and then did some sculpting in Z-Brush, working from low rez and dividing as needed. There's no projection mapping on this and I still gotta add and modify a bunch of things...better color map, need a bump map, some props and refined lighting. :D

Update: I added some more geometry and modeling to the body. Tried out painting with G-Tiles but I am not sure how I like it yet...DPaint doesn't seem to like all the tile boundaries.

Jotajota,

Me encanta tu personaje - sobre todo como lo has encajado en un contexto que revela un lado de su personalidad. Me recuerda a uno de los personajes absurdos que aparecen en los comics de Moebius...

For those non-Spanish speakers:
I love your character - especially how you've placed him in a context that reveals a side to his personality. He reminds me of one of those absurd charactes that appear in Moebius' comics...
