I use cavity setting on every single model now.

And one of my favorite materials is a basic one with cavity settings and rendered in ZMode shadows with loads of rays and hardly any lights at all.
This is a Lightwave/Silo model rendered in ZB. I love the clean look of this material and how it gives a clean edge to everything and fills in the cracks.

Frenchy my friend............
That is the bone that Luke Skywalker thrusts in there to prevent the beast from eating him after he has fallen into the pit at Jabba's Place.
I must have failed drastically in my rendition of the mighty Rancor

really great stuff.. I do like the cavity shader alot. But it does seem to "blur" the crevices on the rhino a tad to much
Excellent!!! :tu: :tu: :tu:

soeren: The cavity shader has no effect on the blurring. That is from `DEPTH CUE' and SOFT RGB` in the render panel.

ah yes, I know.. What I mean is, it makes the crevices look bigger on the rhino, maybe a tad to big for my taste, still looks cool no doubt about that, but if they were a bit more crisp I think it would look even better
Fantastic as usual.

Glen as usually nice work!
I would have liked to see the process of work on the leather of the animal.

Hi Glen
All is clear now :)
I must confess that I have not seen all the "last" Episodes of Star Wars saga
In fact not "last" because Lucas has mixed his roll movies and want to make believe that he makes flash back :D
Cool images again

Glen, you probably hear this all the time but damn you're amazing. :) I love that render of the lw/silo model. That picture always stood out to me among the other beta pics.
Just astonishing, wonderful work!

Zaphod: The Silo bit wasn't all that important really. Unless you are planning to keep the model relativly low res and you want very specific edge loops and flows for animation. As all these examples went super dense (millions of polys) I could have done then from scratch in ZB but I was testing things with Silo at that time.
I use Lightwave primarily and would not be without it but Silo is cool for box modeling as is Clay. I'm a big believer in using whatever tool suits the job but it has to be said, ZBrush is getting nearer and nearer to a one-stop-shop and if you are creating still images it is a must have. Just look at what Marcel turns out time after time.
I did a tut the other week that will be available soon that shows the process 100% in house with ZB.
