Yeah I thought the name was quite witty...Thanks to Robo that the name exists...I hoped you didn't mind me using...and as to Robo's copyright on it....?
Thanks Digits got them.....I'll flip from Ron to you....as I go. :tu:
Pretty cool Ron! Ed they say the artist's eye captures the real essense of a thing, it will be interesting to see how these come out!

Well here is the profile to date.....
Remember Ron caricatures are there to exaggerate....you don't look anywhere near as bad as what is going to happen...in fact in real life...yer lookin' ok....geeze did I just type that...sounds smoochie... I hasten to add... real man here...hunting, fishing...xyy you know the sort :D
I won't show you the frontal until I get a grasp of the feeling of yer mug, plus we don't want the free world bringing up their breakfast do we?....the rest probably haven't eaten as yet.
Obviously there are different ways of creating a character...what with alphas, photos etc...but I like this way personally, good modelling practice. It has also been a long time since I have drawn a caricature, so I shall create one that is slightly exaggerated, and one where I go to town. So bear with me.

Think this is going to be fun to watch. Very good start Ed.

Gee....This is starting to look very much like a certain rib-sucking, redneck, Zombie-fancier of my acquaintance.... :D :D :D
Nice caricature work Ed, and thanks for focussing the madmans' attention so well Ron...I believe I see the beginning of a classic here...
(Stonecutter...Also an xyy type... :D )

You still looking for texture tips? How about scanning a photo of a baboon's pimply butt and using that? LOL! I hope Ron knows I'm only kidding.
Oh MY Gawd-Let me get this straight-Slosh is suggesting that a baboons pimply butt be scanned and used as the texture for ed's charicature of ronocerous's head ...............All right!I hope Ron know's
I'm only kidding......sort of.
:p

Geeze what have I got myself into? 2 at once.
Now I have to apply myself.
I hope this works out.
I once advertised caricatures etc....my first job was a woman who's husband was having his 40th......wanted a caricature of him in dry pastel....turned out he was an almost identical twin, and she wanted the twin brother in the pic as well, and to top it all off......she wanted the twins grouped in two pictures.....bloody nightmere. Anyway without tracing, and using the ol' eyes they were done to that satisfaction of all. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect a scenario like that.
The beginning of Digits......
I'm just looking at what Digits has got on offer to the world....the beard he propagates hides a lot....although good for a simple cartoony type caricature.....so this is the first look at the basics of Digits....a long way to go yet....just feeling my way around.
Digits.....do I detect slightly bucked teeth?
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1032582964enk.jpg
This is fasinating Ed, sorry I haven't got any photos without a beard, I have had one for 30 yrs or there abouts. About the buck teeth, I used to have a overbite but after 3 years of braces and $20000 in dental work my smile has gotten alot better, or at least it better be better or I kill the dentist :)
So this should be a challenging excersize for you, the funnier the better!
if anyone wants to see what Ed is working with here check out my My Ugly Mug (http://www.cyber-webs.com/zbrush/Digits/uglymug.htm)
hi Digits i knowen you to be allways a smart guy but i notice once when i looked at your pic i notice a small Lab Behind you with some beekers and some Glass Ware what are you Brewing up.
are you a chemist?

Well Ron......as far as I have got for now...I have attained a 'handle' on the essence of you...although I have to make you look a little younger than this one. Side of face needs fixing..too bumpy...and nose, ear etc.
Next update tomorrow time permitting...on Digits......and maybe You Ron.
Front looks good, but you're gonna have to wait to see that...this isn't the caricature as such...more of a 'you style'....you can have all the finished ones I make.
The only post work is at the base of the neck, and base of hand.
You and Digits both have entered the Matrix :)

This isn't Digits.....I got sidetracked...and began to experiment as to whether or not I should model hair and beard with the tool. Anyway I won't be doing that. I believe it is possble to model the hair on the tool. One needs a lot of time though. This is one tool.
Here's the experiment.....
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1032616375cdx.jpg
Nice caricatures. After seeing these I got this image in my head of The Knights of the Round Table, except all the ppl at the table were the forum members, King Arthur was Pixolator, and the table had a big ZBrush logo on it. Knights of the ZBrushCentral perhaps ;) :D
Coming along well Ed, I find to model hair as part of the head model, it needs to be maximum divide.

Okay......all I had time for.....getting a 'handle on Digits' eyelids and a few things, need shaping..... more work needed for likeness...then I'll move on to the caricatures.
All one tool.....and just painted as I modelled.

If I wore hats on my shaggy head, they would all be off to you Paul...This is amazing work...!!!
(And I bet Floyd loves his as well as Ron, although I think you made Digits' head a little leaner than the old sea-scuts' actual one... :D )
Stay with it, Oh Keeper Of The Hobbit-Land!
:tu: :tu: :tu:  :tu: :tu: :tu:
Wow Ed, excellent modelling! I'll be watching out for the finished ZNuts. :tu: :tu: :tu:
These are so good, they're actually freakin' me out! Of course, I don't actually know the guys personally, but from their pics, you got a dead-on likeness, in a characature sort of way!
I think I hear Twilight Zone playing in the background. I don't know how you do it Ed, it is one thing to create something out of your imagination because you can't make a mistake but a 3D likeness it seems to me a tough one to do right.
I asked my wife out of the blue "who's that?" she easily recognized me out of context. This is fun! I will just have to keep it out of her hands otherwise she might get to stickin pins in it and such :)
wow, these are just really great!! Keep up the great work! Can't wait to see the all done!

Thanks for all the replies and encouragement people.
However.....I am still not happy with any of the outcomes yet...I want these tools to be as perfect as a 3D tool will allow. My best estimate would be another 50% to go to achieve my goal...(without using texture...as such).
I will say that without texture...or a material other than...the default...I have not yet found the solution to '3D tool life'...a slight 'wooden' factor still exists. Although eyes will eliminate some of that problem....texture would definitely, a render or two also..
However, I shall find the solution, because everything here is really just a bunch of pixels. Waffle waffle...
At this point with these models I'm seriously doubting my artist ability...which usually means change is a foot. So I remain as interested as others here as to how all this will turn out....cos I'm just a spectator as well. All I know... is that I know I can do this, but as to how this is achieved I'm as much in the dark as any here. If not more so.
Normally I would draw on paper...2d so easy...this time though no drawing, it's got to be all 3d or nothing...so no 2d drawing involved here.
Anyway.....next update tomorrow...when what ever is going on change wise...will emerge and do whatever it does.

As always you are your worst critic Ed. But I guess you wouldn't be this good if you weren't. This is truly great work.
These are awesome Ed. It's always a pleasure to watch you work.
:tu: :tu: :tu:
Cool, I cannot wait to see these finished!

Ron feedback from your family needed here.
Web cam photos have a degree of spherical distortion....so I am trying to adjust pic.
See what the family thinks...any areas that are wrong.....mind you most can be fixed with post work...but I'd like to get this right.
Notice the mesh has buggered up on the right hand side.....no biggie, just annoying...I may start this again...however this won't be the one used for the caricature. Also take no notice of where the ear tips are...they are to be changed. This is a roughie tool.
Thanks...
Grief.....everytime I look at this tool pic I click on it and try and turn the thing......marbles are chipped.

I finally got it.....after months of practice, and more practice I got it!
All because I sat down to apply myself to the subject of this thread.
I have found the way to model how I see things....I can't explain how...or why, but yep I got it. Finally the tools I seek.
Ron I can also model you now with my eyes shut...mind you, you are turning out about 8 yrs older than you look with the lighting I have been using.
I am behind with work on this thread....hopefully time permitting all will be finished in about 5 days. I'm only able to model a couple of hours a night....and I've also been experimenting a lot.
Here is another pic of Ron....rendered entirely in Microsoft Excel.......
Naw Corel Photopaint for the hell of it. Low poly tool of Ron.....weighing in at 73kb, and not finished. No post work, just the pseudo rendering. 3D perspective throws the likeness off a bit.

Sounds like a breakthru Ed. They say the human face, because of our instinctual reaction to one, is the hardest thing in reality to capture. I've always admired your work because your skin reacts to gravity, creases, folds and inperfections. Your ability coupled with your style and wit are very unique and has an edge that is very cool to look at. I know the best has yet to come.
So realistic!!! All you need is a little bit of blood around the mouth area and I'd say you've perfectly captured his essence :D :D :D
