haven't shown the publisher yet, as there's a lot more to fix on this one.
Zbrush, Daz's Victoria and Photoshop were used.
sword, choker and wall modelled exclusively in Zbrush. texturing and rendering in Zbrush

quote:
a thinking artist is no surprise

Okay, so I'm going to draw heat for what I'm about to say...
First I should say I've lived with a beautiful and intelligent woman for over 30 years, and yes, I am also an artist. But, Chris old buddy, somebody has confused you...
Naked women, chained to walls aren't erotic, it's sado-masochistic. Your work, as usual is up to a high standard, but I question your judgement.
I don't object to this being here...I'm just saddened by the negative vibes this produces in me, because I love women, and chains don't figure in my lovemaking.
Having said that, the work itself is well executed, although I'm not a fan of pre-packaged figures or textures.
I would ask that people who wish to 'vent' do it to me personally and not clog up the forum with vituperative rhetoric...This is only my opinion, I'll take the heat.
I'm a big boy.
Assuming you haven't finished it, I'll just say it's balanced. The font fits.
It's Daz's chic and texture, so I won't comment on her.
I'm assuming the wall is supposed to be soft looking considering the soft porn. So I'll just say, it's the right color for erotica.
The sword is well done. And the hand placement around the sword is quite well done. It's hard to get poser hands to "grab" correctly.
Course, If I was a naked chic chained up like a dog, I'd be USING that sword on the person who put the chain on me.
If you post in Renderosity, I'd put it under the Poser heading.
One thought you may want to consider as you go forward. Mag or book covers need to make some sort of sense. They need to create a believeable event within one frame (which is why they are so freaken hard)
It might be more sensual if she were free of the chain with it in bits at her feet, leaning over the sword looking up through strands of wet hair (sweaty after chopping on her confines)
What she is looking at we don't know, but she seems pleased enough......
(yeah, I've done erotica before)
below the picture was name "Upon A Dungeon"
well right there tell me that cneofotistos was drawing a pic maybe back in the "Greek day"
and by looking at the sword made back in them days.
Many moons ago which back then they had "WOMEN" and "MEN" chain to the wall this is not
about a women thing what i see is ART and well detailed.
and thank for posting the warning containing nudity.
10-25-01, 01:29 AM
even so...Please...don't take it badly, but I'm with Kathy about the chain thing...
For the rest, I think all is really cool. The wall texture, perhaps...
well i haven't herd or seen anyone being chained up in all my life at least not on the news i haven't.
only place you might see some one being chained up would be for pleasure and you might beable to see that on the Jerry springer show.
the chain wouldn't bother me that bad but that steel collar rubing a rash on my neck would.

hi, and thanx for the feedback. I don't know why you expect me to answer back in heat.
your personal sexual memories and beliefs are respected, as should be mine, as should the *company's* specific guidelines; S/M picture.
it's a job, my friends. don't make me indulge myself in a debate about how sexual fantasies work in the peoples' sexual lives. I'm going to be a sexologist, so you are all going to lose by psychiatric arguments.
I agree, the work isn't top notch, and I'm rather inclined to withdraw it from the forum, although the texturing is Zbrush and I'd have loved some comments about it.
sorry to have taken up space around here.
I had forgotten how puritan people can be, even in 2001.
p.s. love your attitude, EZ :D

quote:
a THINKING artist is no surprise

well you want comment about your project sorry but i never got into Full details about it but far as i can see the hole picture looks GREAT.
ok the sword looks real good even love how it shadow off her arm that looks cool you do have a tad bit of a glow on the tip of the sword that looks like the glow needs to be all on 1 side.
ok the choker or collar love the spikes on it and the thickness.
ok the chain every thing looks good BUT if you look on top of the chain it has a broken link maybe be if she would of turned her head maybe she could of seen it to set her self free.
you haven't been taking up any space around here far as i can see from ALL your post there all good thing.
that pic is in the eye of the beholder
and in my eyes it looks GOOD.
so i wouldn't remove that pic if i was you just because you got a little heat off it.
stuff like that happens i dunno but some people that look at some thing take it the wrong way and has to hurt another person fealings over it and im sure you worked hard and proud of that pic you should be..
10-25-01, 02:44 AM
:D @ EZ. sorry for being a bitch, I really wasn't half as hurt as what was apparent.
this was more feedback than I expected, as well. :D cheers, people.

quote:
a thinking artist is no surprise

your all right in my book cneofotistos
just making some statements.
its NOT about (women) being chained.
its NOT about (porn)
i dont know what you people are focusing on but try focusing on the hole picture
you might see some good work.
i was sticking up for you a bit because if that was me i would of got my fealing hurt
and them comments were UN called for.
some people think there smart with "words"
are usley the ones who Lack comman sence.
Hey, Christos. I posted a reply last night but it doesn't seem to be here today. Don't withdraw this from the forum. It's cool and I'm glad you posted it. I think Kathy was right on the money with the chain thing. If you would like any more observations, you might want to use the dodge and burn tools in Photoshop to bring out a little more contrast and detail on the collar and chains, to bring them to "life" a bit more, as the girl is well lit. Are you happy with the overall look of the chain?
Overall, a very nice piece that should, refined just a BIT more, suit it's purpose quite well! :tu:
Didn't know it was S and M. I was under the impression it was erotica.
If it's S and M. You may want to crank the tone up a bit and put some more chains around or on her, and possibly a shadow of a large male figure cast on her and the wall behind. (We all know that a visual of overpowerment is what they like).
Also, if she is the "slave", she wouldn't have a sword. It's not part of the game to give her the empowerment.
I'm just being technical, but accurate. A chain collar does not an S and M graphic make. S and M is a concert of emotions playing on power, control, and tension. There aren't any of those in this pick. When getting a commision for work, it is always wise to research the industry you are catering to, this again is only advise from someone who has made a living in graphics. I certainly respect your work, and I think you are quite capable of succeeding.
I am also sure you would like repeat business. So constructive criticism from people who may know more than you is, of course, an asset.
I know I welcome it myself.
EZ, I've had this type of conversation before with younger people. And since the last private message you sent me was nothing more that you telling me I am a "Hot mama", I can assume you haven't quite matured to the level of holding a logical opinion about sensual/sexual things.
I went to college and received a degree in ART.
I have been in the industry for 18 years.
I have billed and created a large income with my skills.
I am 38 years old with the experience of a woman who has been married, given birth, bought a house, a car, and built a business.
I consult, teach, and direct graphic content 50 hours a week.
I have worked for the following industries: TV, Radio, Software, Hardware, Non profit, Erotica, publishers, Printer, Environmental Signage (that's companies that make the cool booths for trade shows), the music industry, and a few others delivering high end graphics.
Therefore an opinion from me given in sincerity and honest consideration is VERY "called for".
On a larger scale ANYONE delivering an opinion with sincerity and honest consideration is VERY "called for".
And just because YOUR feelings would have been hurt, doesn't mean you need to transpose your defense mechanism against a long standing citizen of ZBC.
For the record, I Private Messaged this statement to EZ. I don't particularly LIKE to email this person considering his reaction and message to me (rather unnerving).
But, for me, keeping this forum healthy is important. If it goes the way of Renderosity I will be VERY bummed out.
If anyone has a problem with my post. You all know how to contact me personally via phone or email. And you all know you are welcome to contact me.
Sorry for cluttering your thread C.
But it is all one ball of wax. You were the lucky soul to be the catalyst.
10-25-01, 05:33 AM
yeah, yeah, Kathy. I know what you mean. by the way, thanx for every piece of advice and I don't think you are patronizing me, so thanx again.
a.this is what they commisioned, and this is what they'll get :D I didn't even want the job too much -my girlfriend made me do it :D
b. I don't think I have the time or the talent to be a freelance graphics artist. I'll just stick to medicine
godsdamn it, artists are supposed to provoke, but I really didn't want to shock anyone THIS time :D, OR get a favourable vote; when I need some encouragement in that direction, I can always post to renderosity, which I haven't yet.

quote:
a thinking artist is no surprise

Not to worry C. ;)
If an artist doesn't provoke then he/she ought to put the "brush" down.
Hey, if that's what the client wants, then that's what they get. I've had to deliver art I DID NOT WANT out in the world. But the client cut the check for a specific thing. What are ya gonna do??
At any rate, much luck to you. I think it's cool that your girlfriend pushed you into this deal. Life's too short to say no to things. You'll be old one day and sitting in a rocking chair. You can think back about the time you made a naked poser chic and got PAID to do it.
Not many can say that... :D
kathy, I just knew you had it in you. I see it as art, and art only. If there are certain subjects that are taboo on this forum, would the moderators please let the membership know what they are, In that way no one's toes will be stepped on.
thank kathy for telling us your life history background about your self its allways good know the people who you see every day.
for the record and im sure you must of mistken by my typing skills as being a young person but im 38 my self.
for the record please don't post what i say when useing the private message form thats what its for private.
hey anyone read my quote on the bottom of my message in my last post?'
and the new quote of the day is
i like how some people try cuting some other people down in a Nice and around about way but then again i don't realy like it.

tell you model that she needs to visit the doctor for a check up... oh and great image.. lol
10-25-01, 12:34 PM
Just a brief note to clarify my position...
My statement was not critical of Chris, the forum, the morality of S/M...I'm old enough not to be shocked or otherwise freaked out by anything...
Just regretted the negativity of one person being chained by another, that's all. Art to me has emotional content or it isn't art...
Given that precept, what emotional content does this project? A simple question to contemplate:
How would you feel if it was your daughter or wife or mother chained to that wall? Would a personal connection to the victim, and we are obviously talking victim here, change your response?
Why is it okay for someone we don't know to be chained there?
I was 20 in 1967, so that could tell you what a guy whose favourite band was Frank Zappa and the Mothers, might be involved in then...I'm not a prude, the nudity didn't bother me, but Chris an artist, as your tag-line says is a thinking being. I questioned your judgement, I may have been wrong to do that, but I did. I still do.
BTW: I trained as a Psychiatric Nurse, Chris, so don't automatically assume superiority in a clinical debate.
Thanks to the forum for an interesting debate, and thank you Chris for stimulating this debate.
I am so jealous of your talent C. I really like the image. She looks like she's dreaming of someone she loves. Nice work, I'm kind of sad it got moved to the community forum.
