its not really real time rendering, but rather "progressive" rendering. so it happens in passes. if there was such a thing as realtime software rendering then prman/mentalray/brazil would be completely out of business.

the rendering time is still as long as other renderers, but with progressive rendering ( like IPR in maya/ and render-region in houdini/xsi ) you just get to see the progress of your renders be refined in stages. so its great for tweaking.

Actually, it's quite fast. So fast in fact that you can get instantaneous feedback with raytracing and radiosity turned on! I don't know of any other rendering engine that can do that.

I can actually move my camera around in layout and watch it update. However, it should be stated that at the moment Lightwave's architecture doesn't make all internal buffers available to plugins so it does have limitation.

Worley is planning on a network version. I wrote them an email asking for micropoly displacement... couldn't hurt. :)

I love my FPrime. Makes setting up a scene so much easier... nearly instant feedback on light positions and settings, plus just about everything else.

Is Lightwave 8 out in the stores? I thought it had been delayed...
