If you like these kind of things, perhaps you should try to get a look at "Vistapro"!
It lets you view (and build) DEM's, you can build terrain from grayscales & a lot more!!
Some regions of the US are on the CD, just as almost 50% of ---MARS (all real terrain-data!!)!

Thanks! I have an old version of Vistapro - Pre-Windows, but never upgraded. Loved it though. I do love these kinds of apps. Especially when you can build your own.

But for Vistapro: guess we have the same version, used to run under W98, doesn't under XP - sigh!!
