Over the seven or so years that the volcano on Montserrat has been active, there have been a lot of photographs taken of the monster in action. At one time many folks from other parts of the island came to my home at night, to watch the spectactular display. This is an image of a photograph I took on one such accasion.
I used the spray brush at various sizes and intensities to lay in the details after the basic background was blended with the smudge, blur and simplebrushes.

Normally I would comment that you should have had less '3D' effect here Joe, but this is strangely appropriate to the subject...
Rather than a 'ZAdd Off' approach, to make this more of a painting, this seems to work really well for me because it almost has a feel of the 'pyroclastic bomb' effect...

I really like this image, and the power comes across superbly.

A wonderful and compelling portrait of a VERY scary natural force.

An awsome picture, Joe, in the true sense of the word. You must have very mixed feelings being able to watch such violent natural displays from your own home. That's one neighbour I really wouldn't want! :tu: :tu: :tu:

Thanks for the replys.
FC, I only got a chance to look at it on a few occasions as the authorities closed the area, so although this house has not been destroyed I can no lomger visit it, as the dome is growing very rapidly and should break of at any time. Unfortunately I have to look at it from the safe zone which is much further away, and the other side of the mountain so the displays are not as spectacular, but seeining it from anyside is better than not seeing it at all.

Great effects, especially the smoke on the left hand side.
