Hello,
Here are some Zsphere models I have done recently... No textures yet.
All of these models were done using adaptive skinned Zspheres. (except for the cyclops dude, he was done using unified skinning)
In the third image, the lower two meshes(the grey one and the orange one) were done by my nine year old nephew James Bond. Yes, that is really his name! ;~)
Thanks for taking a look!
Michael
p.s. Special thanks to Grub for his insight into making a head model with Zspheres! An excellent technique which I used on the Flying ape and the clown(who is posed for boning and Animation).
Also, Thanks to Upham for his dinosaur script which gave me inspiration to do the Trex!

Some very nice models, and some great presentation of them...What software will you be using for the animation? :)

 :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:

Thanks Michael and Ron... I plan on animating them in Both Truespace and Poser. Mostly Poser though, I will post some animations if you like, I have a few over at 3dcommune's animation gallery. Nothing major but just some fun stuff! I mostly make the characters poseable for the ability to pose them for rendered scenes in raytracing programs such as POVray, Maya, Bryce, 3dsmax, Truespace etc... Not to mention that you can sell them and there are markets for both commercial industries and the hobbyist! I have created poseable characters in the past... modeled in Rhino or Truespace(the hard way compared to Zbrush!).
It is a lot of work figuring out the joint parameters for each joint and then using inverse kinematics and spherical falloff zones... It gets really complicated!
Someday I will be using a big app like Maya, 3dsMax or Lightwave! However they cost too much for me at my current budget!

I'm a MAJOR fan of POV-Ray! That has to be one of the coolest pieces of freeware ever, and I can remember a time when I was 'thinking' in POV-Ray! :D And the renderer still amazes me...I'm getting Cinema 4D and Lightwave this week or next, and am really looking forward to the combination with ZBrush... ;)

Some very nice modelling work, and I for one would love to see some of the animation posted on this Forum... :tu: :D

Yeah, Pov-ray is a very good raytracer... if not one of the best! Cinema4d and Lightwave= three grand($3,000)... why not go with Maya with its new price @ two grand($2,000)? Maya is the industry leader and most of the CGI work that you see in movies, games and abroad these days are done using Maya! The big-timers use this app, and I believe it used to cost around fourteen grand($14,000) last year!
Just my 2 cents...
Take care,
Michael

I actually WAS using MAYA Unlimited, and stopped because I felt like an 'accountant' using it...For me it's the fact of whether or not it interferes with my artistic flow, which is why I didn't like it...I also took a Digital Compositing course at the Vancouver Film School, which changed the way I look at the whole CG thing...It showed me ways of doing things that didn't depend on the developers' vision of procedures... ;)

I have Digital Fusion, a great compositing software as well...It makes things possible in a lot more direct manner than MAYA was enabling me to do...

I hear ya! That is totally understandible!
I am a certified AutoCad draftsman(I have a degree in Mechanical engineering) and I prefer to use Rhino to model things because Autocad is so intensive!
I hear that Cinema4d has an easier learning curve than Lightwave, allthough Lightwave has that cool sky and atmosphere editor. I guess that is why you are getting both huh!
LOL... I look forward to seeing what you will do with those powerful programs in the near future!

Nice work. I am also looking forward to the finished product.
SC Marva,s brother who is a Medical Doctor in Germany sent me Cinema 4 when he heard that I was playing with graphics. Unfortunately, it was in German, I sent it back, asking if I could get the English version, and have not heard from him since. My German is Pxx poor!

Sorry for messing up your thread.
DeeVee.

That's some really good ZSphereage. Can you give us some insight on your materials and settings? I really like the look of them :tu:

Thanks Ed and Josh... I appreciate the comments!
Josh, First off... To make the material, I followed Auricks method to achieve a waxiness(sliding the left side of the diffusion grid up two thirds from the top with no points in between), and then tweaked the material to my liking. But, rather than explain all of the tweaking I've done to that poor basic material... hahahah, I've included it here, I call it "Candy.zmt". Feel free to check it out... Post your results so I can see them. In this .zip file I have also included the lighting settings that I set up for some of these images. I call this file "Showcase.zli"
These settings use traditional 3 point studio lighting techniques.
Hope this helps some,
Michael
P.s. here's some more adaptive skin models... too much fun. The hand however is a fresh unified skin without any extras, and it was my first skinned Zsphere creation.
Still trying to get a good four fingered adaptive mesh... a perplexing enigma!!!
Time to goto sleep....zzzzzz
;~)

Hey Michael,

On my list of things to do was try out your material, which I just did. It looks great and is in my materials folder for future use. I like the way it gets darker in the cracks grooved areas like antique laquer or something like that. Thanks for posting it :tu:

The gray head is just basic material, and the yellow and red ones are your material.
