Hi

As we all know, Zbrush2.0 supports the generating of displacement and normal maps.
I usually make animations with lightwave and messiah stutio 1.5 (messiah animate4.0). It seems that lightwave does not support the micro poly displacement because the displacement maps generated in ZBrush won't work. About messiah I don't know but until know it won't work too.
Are there any other experiences about this displacement thing, what applications do you use...which renderer does support micro poly displacement.

I really need some help.

Best regards.

Fritz

I think I remember Aurick mentioning that some people have gotten some good results using a combination of normal and displacement maps in Lightwave. But if you want micropoly displacement you can get a renderman complaint renderer like air. (http://www.sitexgraphics.com/html/air.html)

However, you'll have to buy lightman (http://www.td-grafik.de/softw/lightman.php?lang=en) to make it work with lightwave.

As a matter of fact, micropoly displacement renderers aren't exactly necessary. You could use any renderer that supports displacement, it's just that micropoly displacement renderers are preferable since they work faster and give better results. As for displacement and lightwave, see this thread for a successful experiment by Dewey (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=015018)

:) Hope to be of help :D

Try Final Render by Cebas if your using Max...It does this technique very well.

Poser 5 does micro-poly displacement, and I am hoping to maybe use ZBrush in conjunction with P5 at some stage.
