hi all. Zbrush crashes everytime I try to merge my scimitar blade and its hilt to make a polymesh object.

what could be the matter? too large objects?
I wouldn't think so, it's Zbrush we're talking about. anyway, I'll upload the objects here. anyone with a good connection and a lot of self-sacrifice might try to tell me if they get the same error as well.

it works for me.
re start your comp your probably running out of system resource's having low memory causing your program to crash by re starting should help it.
and you should defrag your comp all so by START>PROGRAM>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS>DISK DEFRAGMENTER......
how much RAM do you have?

128 RAM, Windows ME --> this one explains a lot. yeah, I do get out of RAM problems in Zbrush lately. I can't think why...any other suggestions?

thanx a lot for trying it out, EZ.

YES >DEFRAG your comp it takes a while.
and here are some small thing you can do
"double click my computer>control panel>internet options>delete temPorary files. that should help a bit and DELETE any programs you dont use the more stuff you have the slower your comp will run..
but make sure you DEFRAG.
YOU have 128 RAM which is more then enough for zbrush but if your comp maxed out with alot of programs its just not going to help.
and if things are scatter all over your comp thats not going to help eather so DEFRAG that helps put little things back in place.. makes your comp run better.

Hi,

What minimum amount of RAM is ZB happiest with? Not the minimum req to operate, but the amount that lets ZB stand up and sing.

a million thanx to pixolator, for emailing me with a solution, and my objects merged.

pix's solution: get revision b of zbrush.

well.. sort of. NOW when I try to merge two ztools (not one ztool with a polymesh, this clearly can't be done) I get an Insufficient relocated memory. :(

what should I bloody well do?

Morning Cris . . . :)

I think I've figured out what your problem is: I downloaded your two files & loaded them into ZBrush. When I drew them on the screen, placed them in the proper positions, & used the "MultiMarker" to group them, everything worked just fine. The problem occurred when I attempted to use the "PolyMesh" tool to create a group object. During the process of using the "PolyMesh" tool a message came up stating that you can only use "Native ZBrush Tools" with the "PolyMesh" tool, which is a fact. You can only use the "PolyMesh" tool with objects created in ZBrush, & as you know this does not include another "PolyMesh" tool. So, I'm going to assume that you created the Blade in another program, & imported it into ZBrush, or somehow you created the Blade & converted it to a "PolyMesh" tool???

Please correct me if I'm wrong? :(

Anyway, if this is not correct, let me know & I'll try a couple of other solutions. ;)

Let me ask you this, why do you want to create a "PolyMesh" tool for your image??? The reason I'm asking is, you don't have to convert to a "PolyMesh" tool if your going to use the object within ZBrush, you can just use the "MultiMarker" tool to group the objects, then place the ( grouped ) object any where in the scene. The image below is your two objects, converted to a "MultiMarker" group object, then drawn & positioned on the screen in one layer, then duplicated & flipped horizontally in the second layer. ;)

One more thing, did you have the "Marker / Modifiers / Material" selected & the "Draw / MRGB" selected BEFORE using the Marker for your object? The reason I'm asking is, when I loaded your objects & drew them on the screen, they didn't remember which Material was used on each one???

Anyway, I'll check back later to see what your response is & we'll go from there. I hope this helps you some & you have a good one . . . Mark.

not sure, but I think there is a problem with the blade. When I try to export it as an OBJ, ZBrush crashes...

thank you kruzr. indeed, I made the blade in 3Dstudio, and I have learnt a few things on markers since last I asked... no problem there.

I need the model as a polymesh object, because I can't save the multimarker (which is a bummer) and, of course, I can't further edit the surface of the multimarked scimitar.

ok, let's consider this problem solved - I'll never use 3Dstudio again ( :) ), and call it a day.

however, what I *do* have now, is a relocated memory error, when I try to join two parts of an orc model I'm making, into a polymesh. what? too big, are they? how on earth, then, am I going to model my full orc model? I estimate Zbrush is going to crash everytime I add a limb to it? perhaps I should optimise the meshes to my objects so much as to lose all the precious details?

of course, all these are the over-optimistic efforts of an inexperienced user to push Zbrush to the limit as a modeller.

perhaps *this* is the limit, and I should just commit myself to 2.5D pictures, but I am not so eager to quit this soon...

sorry to bug all of you in the process of learning, and you certainly should ask me to stop fiddling with the orc model, it's futile, and it's taking up space on the forum :) :) :) :) :)

thanx in advance...

well here some thing you might want to try is take your blade and place it in "another"
program and export it from there only reason im saying this is last night i downloaded a bunch of .JPG and i have a program to convert a .JPG to a .BMP so i can inport it into zbrush well i had 6 jpg i converted to a .BMP and for some reason soon as i inported it zbrush would shut off with no error .. soooooooo i took the same jpg i converted and used another program to convert them back into a .bmp and after that they worked fine.

thanx. EZ. which program would you have in mind, though, that imports mesh+texture and allows for mesh optimisation?

somehow, I don't see this working out.

Hi Cris . . . :)

Don't worry about bothering anybody on this forum, you won't. ;)

I'll tell you what, why don't send me, ( via e-mail ), the two objects that your trying to join with the "PolyMesh" tool. That way I can see a little clearer just what's going on??? And don't worry about bothering me, I love to take things apart to see how they work, or to see why they don't work. You shouldn't really be having any problems due to file size. I run a PIII 500, with 512 Mgs. ram, & I've never had a crash in ZBrush due to the file size. I've had crashes, but they were always due to something else. ;)

We'll get this thing figured out. Have a good one . . . Mark.
