Wow, another amazing image.
Do you do all your texturing in ZBrush Southern?

a great one. love the modelling. too bad J.R.R didn't have access to artwork such as that.
I bet your ent isn't Treebeard, though.he looks a bit hasty.
Tolkien...Southern Style!
Magnificent!
Awesome piece...as always ;)

Hi Chad.
I usually do most of the texturing in ZB as I am trying to learnmore about using textures on models. This texture was made from photographs I took in recent weeks. I created a 3d plane and textured it with a photo of some rust. I then painted on it with loads of different alpha brushes. When I was happy I 3D Copied it onto the Ent head and then made a material with heavy colour bump. Very quick image really.
WHat I really want to work on it how to simulate bump maps. I know a number of ways but it would be good to see how every one else is doing it? Any thoughts?

southern, bump maps?
I always find myself opting for the alpha masking, and I'm sure you do as well. of course, I'm still not drawing upon Zbrush's full potential, so...
In my experience (little), bump maps themselves are simulations of lighting effects. 3d programs that use Bump maps, while creating realistic effects, don't phisically create the "Bump", so a close up or a view from an extreme angle will show the flaw.
Thats why I like the alpha mask/inflate technique. The modifications are made to the mesh, so the lighting effects are more accurate.
My only issue with that is not getting a good enough resolution for the alpha map.
My thoughts...Perhaps they are flawed as well...
