Added second picture of model 29 nov.......

I found a self portrait of Frazetta. I liked it so decided to copy it for the hell of it.
Now I have decided to do three versions:
One using a ZBrush constructed model; another using only ZBrush paint; and still another using Photopaint.

I believe it will be interesting to compare all three.
I shall remain 96% truthful to Frazetta's own work.....some areas within it I disagree with.

So far all I have is the Model (at present unfinished since my recent crash), however over the next month I shall post updates.
Why do I want to do this? Well basically I'm a masochist. Plus I have programmes here that I have only barely grasped the fundamentals of...mainly through laziness. Time I came to grips with them.

As to this model below...I have only sculptured what is necessary of the head.

I'l be interested to see how I fair with this project.

The update is the almost completed Frazetta model.
I am a little disappointed with my ability, and the divide button (I have smoothed all I could on the area).

Also after pulling on the eyelids symmetry was lost......annoying but no big deal ...I shall fix it later on with paint.....or with symmetry Off.

Another thing I found frustrating is copying a painted portrait into a 3D model....anomalies exist within the portrait, as well as the orthogonal view of 3D.
Anyway of the six models I have done I think I shall stay with this one.

The more I look at Frazetta's portrait the more I admire the skill of the man.

I never thought I'd see a head modeled after someone from my hometown here. ;)

Frazetta's kids have a costume/novelty shop in my town as well called "Frazetta's Fantasy Corner".

Looks good. :tu:

Ed, you continue to surprise me with your skill at modeling heads. Very nice work! I, too, am looking forward to seeing how the three versions compare (even though it's a pretty much foregone conclusion that the ZBrush versions will blow the other right out of the water. ;)).

I'm anxiously looking forward to your next update, and crossing my fingers that you don't have another computer glitch!

My studio walls are covered with the limited edition Frazetta prints that guy in Idaho sold in the 1970's...I'm a huge fan of his work going back to the early 1950's, so I'm really looking forward to this project.

You've made a great start!

Thanks for the comments folks.......I hope I can do this to my satisfaction.

I am becoming more intriqued by thisproject myself....could be a slow process, I don't have much Time at present.

The new model above still has issues...as one can plainly see, however it is getting there. I figure if I do more modelling practise I shall iron out some problems I have been encountering.

DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME
I've dropped well past insanity........

I still have an eye to fix....and a little work left on the left eye......still not happy with overall shape.........but getting there I think.

Will work on hair area shortly......as I want the model to be 'whole'.

Caffeine and nicotine levels up. Sleep...Ha!

ed, your head modeling is damn good. in fact, its some of the best i have seen in any 3D app. i am not sure, but did you create a script for how you approach your z-sculpting? beautifully done work....and getting the likeness is not easy work, but you have done really nice here.

The lower levels look like a good start.. the top of the bridge of the nose structure looks a little narrow IMO.

I dont know whose responsible for judging top row, but this should DEFINITELY get in once it's complete! outstanding work.

Good grief......... it re-surfaces:o .

This was modelled with a 3dsphere 5years ago with ZBrush 1.23 (I think). There is an unfinished update around.

Top row....... naw, not good enough.

Plus not a place I wish to view any of my work. I view the top row as discrimination....the joy is producing work, not being judged by it.
