As you know, Z4R2 is a major upgrade to ZBrush and we are thrilled with the possibilities it offers you as an artist.
Your feedback since the release of Z4R2 indicates that you are as excited as we are!
:b3:Click Here (http://www.pixologic.com/zbrush/features/zbrush4r2/dynamesh/) to view the Z4R2's feature list.
:b3:Click Here (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?161537-ZBrush-4R2-ZClassroom-Movies.-Update-3&p=895791&viewfull=1#post895791) to view video tutorials demonstrating Z4R2's features.
:b3:Click Here (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?112-ZBrush-4R2-BetaTesters-Images-And-Tutorials) to view artwork created by Z4R2's beta testers.
Now that Z4R2 has been put to the test by ZBrush users, on many different system configurations and workflow, we found some 'rough corners' which we would like to polish. Therefore, we will be releasing an update patch allowing you to take full advantage of the powerful features in Z4R2 as soon as possible, without having to wait until Z5 is released. A few extra goodies may also be included with the next update.:)
ZBrush4 R2b is planned to be released in the second half of December 2011 as a free-of-charge upgrade to all registered users.
Thank you for your continued support,:)
Happy ZBrushing!

Wow, this is a nice surprise indeed. With a program as complex as ZBrush, some bugs are going to slip through the cracks inevitably- and I'm glad to see that you guys are taking the time to help in this regard.
It's always been my opinion that I would gladly pay an upgrade fee for each major version if it meant that we get better support for 'in between' time.. really glad to see some bug fixing coming.

This is great news... Would any of the problems be Zbrush hangs in windows 7 64? I started using this fantastic piece of software when from version 4. Version 4 was stable to the 'T', but I have found that 4R2 had some trouble going over 10million faces, which I suspect is low for Zbrush.
None the less, I am not one to complain when the upgrade was given out of the goodness of your heart. And now this? Wow, I am in admiration of you guys. Good times ahead!
Thank you to all the pixologic staff.

Pixologic are you really Santa Claus in disguise?
I do believe in santa I do, I do, I do believe in Santa or should I say Zanta!
I have to wonder because ZB in it's self is such a wonderful program to behold, 2d-3d pure magic, but to have free upgrades/fixes where no one does that in this world is the most amazing thing, like getting exactly what you want for christmas over and over again, just waiting there under the tree when you wake up. You guys are the most awesome, kindest, totally rocking people in any business I have ever known of, and if other businesses were like this we wouldn't be having the problems that we do in this world. You care about your clients/users, future zb users and your program quality and I love you for it, not just because it is free but you try so hard to make us all happy and then give it to us freely from your heart is just icing on the cake. Every time you have released one of these updates has felt like getting a great christmas present no matter what time of the year it is. I also hope are proud of all that you have accomplished changing the way we make movies, games and so much more in and outside of the entertainment industry. ZBrush is and always will be, no matter what, not only my favorite all time software program but also the best investment I have ever made. I don't know really what else to say....one zhappy tear flows down my cheek.....Thank you St. Pixologic! :tu::cry::lol::D:lol::cry::tu:

I'm sure you guys are busy with all kinds of cool ideas, but would it be possible to add an adjustment to how the right click navigation behavior works (or an additional option) in this new update?
I've noticed that with right click navigation turned on, the 'default' navigation method is still active. It tends to trip me up a bit when pressing my alt express key on my intuous 4 pad to move my model... often, in the flurry of pen movements and such, I inadvertently release a bit of pressure on that alt key and go into scale mode - which is incredibly frustrating when I'd prefer to leave it scaled as it is. Since move and scale are separated with right click navigation on (alt + right click and ctrl + right click, respectively), there doesn't seem to be a need to give alt any power over scaling.
Could right click navigation being on disable the default navigation? Or at the very least, break the connection between alt and the scale function? Hopefully that won't be too time consuming to program in... thanks!

I for one feel it would be better if they phased out of doing that. Here's why: if Pixologic is to grow as a business and innovator, it needs more revenue. I'd rather pay the $500 or so for an upgrade and have dozens and dozens of new, wonderful features, than to have fewer features.
The upgrades will also likely come sooner as well because Pixo could afford to hire even more coders all working simultaneously.
Just think of it!

EricShawn- I definately understand your concept and used to feel the same way about Pixologic a few years ago that they would innovate faster if they had more cash. After watching the mamoth ship of Autodesk wallow in a total lack of innovation the past few years since they bought their competition, I would definately say that Pixologic is way ahead of the game and wouldn't change a thing with their trojectory or the size and scope of their company.
I can't wait for their latest presents just before xmas coming up :)

Awesome! Can't wait for the new update.
The only issue with R2 was when my student had the tool's mesh completely disappear. I've never had the problem, but he couldn't draw it out on the screen. The tool looked fine in the Tool menu, but simply wouldn't draw out. The fix was to load up an older tool (keep versions of your tools) and reload the newer tool into the older one. Worked like a charm. Hope this little problem gets fixed.
Otherwise, I'm really selling the benefits of Zbrush at the college. Not a hard sell, btw. They take to it like fish to water. Really loving the dynamesh tools a lot. Can't wait until v.5.

No.
I would rather not think of it.
I think that is a terrible idea.
Seriously, it would wreck a great company and ruin Zbrush.
Yeah I would keep their model as is, rather than working up to paying into subscription schemes.
You know the ones where you pay for stuff that is already done and near useless when it comes out or just buying up plugin or scripts and rolling them in as a way to meet their end of the subscription agreement.
Pixologic is amazing because they are focused on making a great tool(s) for artists and not being a corporate giant. If they go that way you can kiss the innovation buh-bye to the bean counters who will only care if the numbers are good regardless of the actual usefulness or quality of the program.
Sort of like knock off products, sure its sort of the same but the guts and soul is missing or maybe does not taste not quite right. In that case its not the same thing and a lazy cheap way of thinking.
I have no beef paying when it comes to Pixo, I have confidence that what I am getting wont be pointless crap just
to make a release increment and stock holder meeting impression.
It amazes me that they have not charged at least some stipend to help support them.
It would be mind blowing if Z5 were not a charge of some kind.
So along with whatever bug fixes and polishing, the possibility of some new tool(s) cheers to Pixologic once again.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
Please UPGRADE PaintStop plug-in )

What you are saying would not necessarily work. There are plenty of companies that do what you are saying and still don't get it right. Same old bugs, new bugs, not what you want in that specific upgrade not enough features included in the new upgrade etc etc etc.
All of these issue can be laid at the door a large number the top applications out there, though not necessarily all the issues at the door of any one application.
I'm not sure you could find many companies that are adding any more new stuff to their app than Pixologic is in the same time frame.
Pixologic obviously have their own business plan and I'm sure they have taken on previous opinions that have hinted at them charging for updates. So assuming that and assuming that they are in a relativley healthy finacial situation then I think it should be up to them if and when they decide to change the status quo.
Saying that I'm still amazed that they don't charge for upgrades. Maybe we all could do some charity work to compensate.;)

I think it has been pretty much covered in the initial post. " A few extra goodies is only there do drive you wild. Sleepless nights, sweating, If? But? Why? Why not? If only? Then you wake up and it'sssssssssss.......... Not out yet!!! Dah dah dah dah!!!!!! And it all starts all over again. Then you think, but it's too late, that lovely back massager?
Things I'd like to se fixedMannequins: at the moment the fantastic promis of bEing able to pose a hoped THEN sculpt the details is not possible because the resultant skin loses symmetry and poseable symetry is no longer possible making mannequins obsoletePolygroups from masking: at the moment crashing randomly... The combination of painting masks, convert to poly groups then dynamesh with groups on is a great workflow nut not working at the monTranspose rotation: I've noticed that in symmetry mode when trying to rotate let's say a forearm pronation/supination it won't work... Only on side at the time is possibleBusiness model: agree that more money/more people doesn't necessarily helps. The corporate model of mammoth companies is long dead you want reactive efficient and most importantly emotionally engaged teams that believe in their product...business is like a battlefield the most passionate warrior can defeat an army where responsibility is diluted, the goals become blurry and decision making a painful process . Look at what pixo has done for the industry and other players like army of one 3dcoat this past years innovation has come from everywhere BUT the big players that rely way too much in words like "industry standard" or mumbo jumbo like that...standards are there to be broken and improved in any industry let alone our industry that is computer based... If computers evolve every 6Months so should our tools...bottom line Pixo model is the way to me

As much as i wish we had proper select/scale/rotate tools like in other 3d packages i know it's not gonna happen. The godawful transpose is part of the 'innovation'. I love zbrush but the transpose sometimes makes me want to tear my hair out.

I don't understand why everybody is going nuts just because of a PATCH.

Have to take my hats off to you guys, your right on the ball with things, well done, your hard work is much apreciated.
It's funny to see how Zbrush upgrades become more like Christmas toys for us, rather than just a boring upgrade like in every traditional boring software. Seriously, for me Zbrush is the only software that combines work and fun, i dont even feel i'm working with it, i feel i'm playing some kind of futuristic game. Zbrush is the only modeling software that makes me happy to do this job. Thats all, thank you Pixologic for making this "game" even better everyday.

I completely agree. The best feature of Zbrush is Zbrush and the God-like creative power it bestows upon artists. Or were you speaking about a specific tool?
That Pixologic has been as generous as they have with their updates is a blessing.
So you do agree with Corey when he says one of the best things about Zbrush is that it features free upgrades?

With respect, I don't see anything in the forum rules that says we must all show gratitude when we post. From the sound of Corey's comment, he is plenty grateful. Like you, I too am grateful and Pixologic has my sincerest thanks for all they have done for artists. However, some folks don't like Zbrush and do not have anything good to say about it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that and I still respect their opinion, even if I don't agree with it. People need to stop being so sensitive over a (really great) bunch of code lol.

Zeddicus, thanks for sticking up for me, brother!
anand7-
How is praising someone on something, showing a lack of gratitude?
Here, let me rephrase my comment, as to not offend you...
I'm GRATEFUL that zbrush has made all of their updates free of charge.
Exactly the same as saying: The best feature is the free upgrades..
...Its just a little more urban, and slightly less religious.
At any rate, we all have something in common.
We all use Zbrush either recreationally or commercially.
All for the same reason.
It is KICK@$$.
If Pixologic decides to release ZB5 for free, or if they decide to slap a $500 upgrade fee on it..
I'm still going to be a loyal Zbrush user, and take the means necessary to upgrade.
I was merely paying praise to the fact that this business gives so much to the 3D community.
In a time where nothing is free, economies around the world are in the gutter, they make their product free.
There is something to be said about that.
Keep it up Pixologic, we all love what you are doing.

Fair enough and well said.
The combination of two phrases smacked me the wrong way..."I don't care what you say..." and "The BEST feature..." I've been battling corporations for a long time getting them to live up to their promises. Most recently, it's the software companies and (twitch) Sony. I respect Pixologic for the pride they seem to take in creating a world-beating tool and for me, that is the best feature. That they have upgraded every licencee for free is remarkable but if the tool was rubbish, that wouldn't count for much.
Consider if people said, in the face of what your good friends say, that your very best feature was that you always buy drinks and that you never expect repayment. I don't know about you but I'd like to respected and valued by the quality of my friendship...not the freedom with which I blow my cash.
But enough. I was oversensitive and you use language differently from me. So, I'm willing to end this and continue fantasising about 4r2b...:D

I'm having some difficulty with GoZ for Cinema 4D r13 (Mac OS 10.6.8). The C4D script works & sends my base mesh to ZBrush. The GoZ button from ZBrush launches C4D but does not send/update the geometry. The same GoZ set up works perfectly with C4D r12 and earlier. Is it me or is there a fix in the works?
I have tried the Dec 08 plugin but the issue persists.

hmmm...
when I decided to buy a brush based sculptor last year deciding between Mudbox and ZBrush ( of which I loved both ) the deciding factor for me was that ZBrush upgrades are free.
Is this not the case?

Notice how there's nobody going "whoohoo" just yet? :D I don't think that r42b is out yet. I know that I haven't gotten any e-mail notification and there's certainly nothing in my support account about it having been released. They said late December. It's still only the 13th. I suspect that it'll be out before they visit family for Christmas or just right after the holidays, if they follow their typical delay pattern. Either way, I don't think that it should be too far away.

Your ZB version is listed in the title bar way up top. If it says that you've already got ZBrush4R2 then you should be current. Otherwise, you're going to probably need to contact Pixologic directly. The download link and upgrade instructions for 4R2 come from Cleverbridge.

I would love to start seeing more of "Rendered in Zbrush"
...and less "Rendered in (Vray, Mental Ray, Modo, Octane, etc)"
Lets beef up the rendering, PLEASE.

Z4R2b will mostly involve bug fixes, so we'll have to wait for Z5 onwards before seeing any major feature upgrades. Nevertheless I have to agree with you. The really outstanding materials don't work at all with BPR, requiring "Best" mode to render correctly. Like many others I'm hopeful we'll also see adaptive/dynamic subdivision some day, similar to Sculptris but for quads instead of tris. As awesome as dynamesh is, I've discovered it's still possible to run out of polygons if I'm not careful.
At this point I'm guessing we'll see it early in Jan.

Nope, December.
[EDIT: So start holding your breath!!]
I thought they manually send out the links and it takes a week to get them out?
Odds are they'll all be off for the holidays soon, so I doubt we'll all see the release this year unless they are releasing the patch differently than the past few releases.
(Not knocking them at all... I'm more than happy to wait a week or two for the free updates I've been getting for years now!)

Nothing. TADA!! Surprised? ;) Count on 4R2b being 99% bug fixes, probably to make some of the new R2 features more stable and predictable. People shouldn't get their hopes up for more than that and start expecting any extra Pixo luvin' in their X-Mas stockings. 4R2b is likely just a maintenance release.

Perhaps the thread that tells us it will be released on Jan 23rd will give us a clue!
He means this: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?164835-FiberMesh-Preview
So much for the nay sayers that said there's wouldn't be any significant new features added.

Whenever we make a release we always make a Top Row featured post at the same time so that everyone can know it's happened.
Of course, you can also follow us on Facebook, Twitter or Google+ as we'll be spreading the news via them as soon as it happens as well. :)
Its my birthday for at least 8 more hours.. you still have time.. ;)
thanks for the belated bday present :) best money i have put down . anything else besides fibermesh would be icing on the cake

You guys really came through, working obviously late into the night to get this out. And for a FREE update as well.
Not many companies can say that at all. Many thanks for the dedication!
(I'm updating right now!) ;)
And update and activation went easily, and I really like the new update system, I think. The only issue was when I clicked the copy activation code button, it did not copy the activation code to the clipboard. (I just had to do that manually.)
Not sure what was up with that.

Pixolator, better yet get a keg for the whole Team Pixologic and pass out the red cups! ..uh I'll toast with the Mountain Dew crew.
Pixologic is so head and shoulders above most software companies in mutual loyalty and respect for their customers. One look in the forums and you can see the love being enjoyed and returned ..a modern Da Vinci company.

There are other software companies such as the Propellerheads who make the software called Reason, that are very loyal to their user base as well. They let users Reason Duo owners pay as little as $1, 1 Euro ,£1 for significant upgrade to the next version when they originally planned for it to be priced at £99. I've long been user of the product since 2001 and made some great tracks. Great product, great company that listens and cares about it's users but is also focused on doing things their way in a unique way. I think many here would put pixologic in the same sort of frame..
For those who come from those big 3D apps, the expensive ones (Cinema 4D being no exception which I both love and hate for very different reasons), the thought of having new features added without a whopping price tag/service agreement payment to keep up to date is a rather odd feeling. The little parcels of features might not always be up to scratch, they may need more polish, hopefully ZBrush 5 will shine those off nice so it's an all round solid bug free application we want it to be.
The indication for a payed for add on called 'Remesher' is one that may indicate a shift to a payed upgrade to R5, how that compaires to other apps in the same sector I'm not sure but 64 Bit (upwards of 4 GIG of memory being used), the freedom to expand beyond and point it's horns in the tummy of competing apps in the same stable is a compelling way to move through the field and attract and improve the product to higher levels than we have at present. The introduction to a hair system is just the beginning..

Totally love the upgrades on this so far... Gives me new toys to play with, and gives me more to make some serious sculpts now. Can't wait to see how far I can get. Congrats my dear comrades at Pixologic...you really have a winner, I dare say!
