Umm...
Looking around the forums I see alot of posts about Cubic skinning...
is there a tutorial about this?
and is it a way to make a 3d object out of it?
is it a tool?
is it bigger than a breadbox? LOL
I see some realy neat work and if it is a 3d tool I would love to play with it to make crumbleing brick walls and maby pueblos for in the far distance like in a sky box/portal for my game map...
I can think of quite a few uses for something that makes 3d stuff like that...
especialy when I am makeing a crumbleing aztec/mayan ruins theme map....
Take, for instance a 3D sphere edit it a bit-Zadd or Zsub(RGB/off) while still in edit mode go to Tools/Inventory/Resolution:set the slider to 32.Next-Tools/Inventory/Smt(smooth)set the slider to 0.Next-Tools/Inventory/Click on make unified skin-viola you should see a nice little cubic skined tool in your inventory to play with. This is one method-There is another that I haven't played with much yet.Hope this helps.

This begin life as a sphere-pushed,pulled and then used two different flattens on it,
and finally perspective.

Pilou, i dont know which way rhom is doing it, but i remember that using the "gradient sky" material and changing colours in its S1-modifiers did the trick for me :)

Here is a map mesh I made in just a few minuets in Zbrush useing Cubic skinning...
the textureing I had the world editor do automaticaly tileing and sizeing the bricks.... I am not going to finish this one, I want to make one with a nice entrance...
Useing the smoothing tool on the cubemap gave me great results!! the bricks look like they have been sitting in the rain for a few hundred years...
I am going to use this trick to make crumbled brick walls, pyramids, pices of modern art in an upcomeing museum map I am going to do.... and whatever else I can think of to make mapping history...
well thanks for the help all... here is the in-game shot...

BTW this is not to scale or anything,,, it is just a test to see what I could do with the cubeskinning :).....
next shot will be a fuly textured mesh and to scale ... probably with a door on it and maby some stairs to the top...
Thanks again all :)
Woooohoooo!Great!Glad I could be of help Polaris.Yes Frenchy I got the two colors with the render
lights.Hansls' method works well also.
Here is another method:
Using simple brush with RGB and Zadd selected
size 24(whatever) and rgb 100
spray some random strokes
use the MRGBZ grabber(auto crop off)
turn the created texture into an alpha
in alpha modifiers set mesh smooth to 0
mesh resolution to whatever suits your fancy
and mesh depth resolution to whatever
click the make 3d button in alpha modifiers
presto bingo another cubic skinner is born.
I seem to be overusing the whatever phrase-must be my daughter's influence.
