Hi all,

I can't believe how much fun this was, or how much sleep I've lost tonight doing the head and eye tutorials.

This is my first head. Please give me some pointers on the ears, or whatever you might have.

Thanks,

Jay

hey,

that is a really good human head. awesome for a first. the eye is really great, too. you did terrific on the modeling and i'm sure you'll get better quickly.

what you might try doing to make the ears more detailed, is finguring your ear while your at your computer. just run your fingurs on the inside of you ear, figuring out all the ridges and lumps. also, you might want to try giving him some sort of eyelids, so the eyeballs will fit better. this is hard to do, so don't get discouraged when your trying.

very good model...keep up the good work

your first head is incredible, Jay! can’t believe my eyes... no earpointers from here, it would spoil the beauty of that object... bravissimo! hmmm: better get used to take huge credits on your zleep-account! ;)

Hello Jaycephus,

ZB is a boatload of fun isn't it!!
This is indeed a superb 1st head. I think the ears look fine and are complimented by a strong jaw line. I notice you have a very nicely defined area between the lips - which along with ears is one of the more frustrating areas (for me ;)

AS EZ said - you're the one who will be giving out pointers :D

Welcome to ZBC

Hi all,

Thank you for your replies. By the way, that's not a ZBrush eye, that's a pic of my eye after staying up half the night playing with ZBrush.

I thought about the ear this morning and I think instead of pulling the whole ear as one piece up out of the side of the head, it would be easier to pull a smaller c-shape up and out to form a half-cylinder about an inch tall on the side of the head, and then push and pull it into the ear shape. This would be easier than trying to carve in the separation between the ear and the head.

When I get the full version, wouldn't it make more sense for realistic ears to make one ear and save it as a tool? Then it could be applied to heads as is, or slightly modified if you want it thicker or pointy (or melted in the case of Salvidor Dali).

I found some online references, including a Gray's Anatomy online.

Thanks again for your kind words, y'all,

Jay

Jaycephus that's a great jawline. :tu:

I also appreciate the mouth and how natural it is open.

Very nice head modeling.

I personally build an ear with ZADD and pull back.

I think one of the mistakes of ear building (my HUMBLE 2 cents of observation on my own work) is that the ear is pulled out to the side, when it should be built and pulled backwards...

But your ears are really impressive.

Nice eyeball 2. ;)
