work in progress but I sat down this morning over coffee and started sketching on a background and mapping out on paper how I would do it and all...and I have an image inspired by an artist's sketch in a book I checked out from the public library yesterday..the artists name is Ron Tiner...but my version of Icarus Jr. is a bit different from his. And as I cross my fingers I hope it will work with this background...but all I have for now is the background pic...and I am not very good with backdrops and landscapes...but practice practice and practice...enough rambling...here is the first of several pics hopefully to emerge ...o yeah..almost forgot...all done in Z cept for the water which I use a flood plugin effect in psp7 :o ok..and I had to add more light coz this cant be seen coz I havent fixed my calibrations...so i pulled down the original and reposted one with more light...hope its better...grrrrrrrr http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1010536621byp.jpg

now let me know if the above or the below pic is the best lit....still having probs with the lighting...thnx for bearing with me
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1010539569kzr.jpg
and added even more light on the third one....thnx for the patience with my newbieness
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1010546275bzc.jpg Icarus Jr. used super glue rather than wax for his wings...but seriously, this was all z except for the model which is poser3...I havent mastered the bodies yet...threw it all together in psp...I have a white line I cant get out of it for nothing.....well anyhoo...here it is....o yeah the grass stuff was a picture tube in psp and as was the water....hope i didnt leave anything out about it.... http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1010551711qqh.jpg

This looked really awesome in the thumbnail -- almost photographic. It looks great here, too. You've done a very effective job, and if this is any indication then the final piece will be way cool. Great work!

go, ron, go!

I don't know how inadept you were at backgrounds, but you seem to have gotten over it already.

ron i really do love these images.. however i agree with aurick..try blowing up the image to about2000x 2000 or 2500x2500 then shrink it to about800x600... the light is perfect for me... and as far as your newbieness... lol very funny stuff there buddy..

Nice pix--I always never know which render looks best either--good to see choosing the best--confuses someone else as well---I would have chosen the bottom---then actually been BUGGED that I hadn't chosen the middle --go figure-- :D :) :D

This scene has a lot of depth and the bottom one is clearly the favorite, mine too. Very atmospheric. It's a shame that some of this will be covered up by what you're going to put in, but it will be interesting to see what you add.

I still vote for number 2.

I prefer the middle, but ideally I think I would like something in between the middle and the bottom. The light seems a little "too bright" in the bottom one to me.

I think I am thru? It didnt come out exactly like I had hoped :(

Not to worry Ron!

I think it is a fine rendition. The subject belongs with the background. GREAT composition. Extremely well thought out scheme. Nicely painted wings. The affect is strong and solid.

Now, take all the good stuff, wipe out the "things that didn't come out exactly like I had hoped", and you'll have it to your satisfaction.

I can't EVEN tell you how many times I've reworked a piece (any of them). Z is such a process of elimination when it comes to "how to" do something.

Your work is admirable! :tu:

I agree with Kat. I still like 2 best, although they are all good on their own.
