"The Next Step in Digital Art"
For over 10 years, Pixologic has been committed to the principle of offering cutting edge tools to artists. ZBrush 4R2 continues this tradition by giving all existing users an update packed with powerful new features designed to maximize creativity and accelerate the concept-to-completion workflow.
Regardless of your artistic level, we are confident ZBrush 4R2 will embrace your creative needs.
We are thrilled with this release, and eager to see the benefits that you will gain from what ZBrush 4R2 offers.
In the upcoming months we will continue the development of those features towards the release of ZBrush 5.
ZBrush 5 will include new features as well as 64 bit versions of ZBrush for Mac and Windows operating systems.
Special thanks to all those involved in the making of ZBrush 4R2, including: the beta team, artists, ZBrushCentral members, and the staff at Pixologic around the world.
We look forward to seeing all your new and fascinating artwork here at ZBrushCentral.
Happy DynaMeshing:)

Here is what your fellow ZBrush artists have to say:
“No longer are my restrictions there. From a simple sphere, I can create almost anything my heart and hands allow. When needed, I can seamlessly attach whole pieces of geometry and forget about reassembling the mesh or retopologizing. My sculpting can continue without delay.”
Matthew Kean Framed World
"ZBrush is my main tool here at Framestore's Art Department which I use every single day. It's important to have features like DynaMesh to be able to start with something from scratch and not have to use any other software to finish my concepts."
Christopher Brandstrom Framestore
"The new additions to ZBrush 4 R2 are awesome. I can’t think of not having it in my day to day creation of characters."
Brett Briley ID Software
“While beta testing, my favorite new feature is LightCaps. It allows me to generate direct lighting from environmental images. Filters comes a close second; render once and then adjust filters in post, giving instant results.”
James Rumball Escape Studios
“The freedom to explore concepts in 3D without worrying about stretching polygons allows me to focus all my efforts on the design. Add to that the ability to add and subtract parts of the mesh, slice them up and even create an inner surface. I started with ZBrush over a decade ago and I’m still excited every time I fire it up! One word, ‘liberating’.”
Glen Southern SouthernGFX
“ZBrush 4R2 represents everything I had always wanted from digital sculpting. Its new features, DynaMesh, the Insert Brushes, and the new Curve Brushes unlock an artist’s imagination, and remove the polygon chains we have worn for far too long. Sculpting today has reached a new threshold.”
Ryan Kingslien ZBrush Workshops
ZBrush 4R2 also includes GoZ and your favorite plugins:
:b3:Blend Shapes:b3:UV Master:b3:Paint Stop:b3:3D Print Exporter:b3:Decimation Master:b3:
:b3:ZAppLink v4:b3:Multi-Map Exporter:b3:TransPose Master:b3:SubTool Master:b3:

ZBrush 4R2 is a free upgrade to all registered ZBrush users.
Please see the following for details:
Your ZBrush 4 serial number will not change, nor will you be setting up a new Cleverbridge or Support account. This update simply installs a new folder for ZBrush 4R2 which must then be activated using your ZBrush 4 serial number. If ZBrush 4 is already activated on your computer you will see a message to "request a copy of the activation key. This creates a new activation code without counting the computer against your serial number a second time.
If you have a CURRENT download link from Cleverbridge, clicking that link will now deliver the 4R2 version automatically. You can begin downloading immediately. The download link is in the same email that contains your serial number for ZBrush 4.
If your download link from Cleverbridge has expired, you will need to wait for a new download link to be sent to you. For your convenience, that link will also include your serial number for ZBrush 4. Due to server capacity, they cannot send these links to everyone simultaneously. It may take up to one week for all emails to be sent. Please do not contact Support to request that your download link be renewed.
The upgrade emails will be sent to the address that is on record from your purchase of or upgrade to ZBrush 4. In other words, the same email address that your ZBrush 4 serial number was sent to. Please be sure to keep an eye on your spam filter or junk mail folder, as we know from experience that some of those can prevent the email from reaching your inbox. Only contact Support if you have not received the upgrade by Wednesday, September 28.
If you are a registered ZBrush user who has not yet upgraded to version 4, please go to https://support.pixologic.com. Register on the Support site if necessary and then create a ticket in the Upgrades department. Be sure to include as much info as you can concerning your ZBrush license purchase so that we can locate your account and upgrade you as quickly as possible. You will be upgraded directly to ZBrush 4R2. Your earlier version of ZBrush does not need to be installed.
:::::: Documentation for the new version is installed with ZBrush 4R2. You will find a Documentation folder within your ZBrush 4R2 folder, containing PDF files covering the new features in both ZBrush 4 and R2. Online documentation is available at www.pixologic.com/docs/ (http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Main_Page). We will also be adding new movies to the Education section at www.pixologic.com (http://www.pixologic.com) to demonstrate the new features and their use.
A FAQ has been posted to help you resolve any issues that might arise. We have also created a Questions & Troubleshooting thread for ZBrush 4R2 HERE (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?160733).

WOW, that feature list is impressive!!
Can't wait to play with Dynamesh and those curve/slice/lathe brushes look awesome along with the createtri/quad/surface brush where you just draw a shape and it's created with depth...Literally a tool I dreamt about...Awesome!!
I also like how the brush pallette has been streamlined, all the excessive brush variations taken away, cool.

Looks great, interested to try it but please Pixologic, please, please, please can we have these features added in ZB5:
Proper Multi UV Support with UV Viewer/Editor?
Ability to turn Masks ON/OFF (with a little button)?
Fixed loading .ZTL (broken Layers from older ZB3.5 R3 files)
Proper colour texture painting with Layer support in ZBrush?
Working real-time Transparency in Viewport?

Ability to turn Masks ON/OFF (with a little button)?
The mask>viewmask button hides and shows masks?
Also you can save masks in layers, create a new layer, make sure record is on and paint a mask, switch record off to hide it, press record again to bring your mask back up! Create lots of reusable masks this way.
...Anyway, back to Zbrush 4R2, Woohooo!!

As I say, a button in the panel to simply turn the mask ON/OFF, not hide or have to create layers or have to swap to a texture from a mask. A simple ON/OFF button ;)
Anyway, looking forward to ZB5, Woohooo!

Soooo, if the serial for ZB4R2 is the same as ZB4, why the hassle with cleverbridge mails? Why not just throw the installer on-line and be done with it?

I look forward to testing out the new features but what did they fix in R4.0 in regard to stability and bugs ? The deformation parameters have been pain in crashing me out consistently since I first installed.
I am aware of the change list in ZBrush 4R2 but as for bugs and fixes ?
I'm happy to see 64 bit is on the cards but I'm not predicting that an R5 is going to be any sooner than what most expect.
ps
I'm on Windows 7 64 Bit.
I started my download and walked away to get breakfast. When I returned it had stopped with only 216mb of the 398mb file downloaded. So now I have to start over (on my not so fast connection).
Anybody else having this problem?

it happen sometime that alot of people are downloading the magic ticket ^^, so, try again or try to use the resume feature from the third party software. it's the best way to prevent that problem

strange , i wonder if the forum has an issue, it showed a page 4 and when i clicked it , it kept loading me page 3 again.
Does it already put the 4 when page 3 is full , but no one posted anything yet for 4? maybe there's a counter that's +1 too high in the code somewhere ;)

Since Z4R2 is meant to bridge between Zb 4 and ZB 5, is there a reason we have to whimsically name it like a Star Wars droid, and not just call it 4.5 like every other software company in the world would?
(Snark entirely a product of not having my download link yet)

Very excited by the previews! In my opinion, zbrush's strength is that it is an excellent content creation tool. With the addition of dynamic mesh, it looks like it at worst will cut out an intermediate step.
I'm looking forward to the e-mail, haha.

You have 5 other browesrs to choose from if Firefox doesn't work. There are no problems watching the video in Firefox, aside from the fact their servers are getting hammered, so things are slow or unresponsive, which would be the same in any browser. It would be nice to see videos posted to YouTube simply to use their much greater bandwidth, and relieve some of the load on Pixo.

I wouldn't advise anyone to use google chrome based upon my experience which includes you being unable to read your msn mail through some sort of bug it has which can crop up at any time.
I'm not aware of Orca Browser being based on Firefox as I've never used it.

I haven't posted in quite a while but I wanted to thank the people at Pixologic for another free upgrade. It's been 9 years since I bought Zbrush 1.5. I don't even remember how much I paid for it. I'm sure it was less than what it costs now. So thanks for your generosity and for such a great program.

PS:I hope also the new ZB5 will be a free update...I invest a lot of money for my favourite hobby (ZB) and I would be very sad if your policy changed because I could no longer enjoy your genius and to play with your awesome child.

MSN Mail is created by Microsoft, who also obviously make Internet Explorer, which is the ONLY browser that does not conform to internet standard protocols. The problem isn't in Chrome itself but in how MSN Mail is written in broken code for a broken browser.

This is gonna be a sillydumb question, but about how long is it, on average, for an email to be sent out? Is there like a 10 second timer between every email that is sent? I'm trying to fight the depressive irony that I am most likely the last person on the mailing list (or I was the first person, but for some random reason my email client kicked it out, hahaha.) Anywy, I've been super stoked excited about this release since Pixologic first announced it in these forums. :D

It's just random. You could have it an hour from now, you could have it next week. Longer if theres some sort of mix up or technical issue, which happens to an unfortunate few. So an "average" would be...half a week?

For me when I get the email cool.
Just like the program a great deal and the programmers are doing an outstanding job keeping the product fresh and up to date.
The way that ZB prep the users for the update and the tuts are outstanding for that reason I do not mind the wait.

Just out of curiosity, how big is the download?
Scott M C4D
09-21-11, 04:32 PM
I don't know why they use this kinda system in emailing out randomly thousands and thousands of codes to email addreses. They could have simply uploaded it for download and allowing you to use your original code for R4.0 or for what ever version you have and reactivating it as normal. They need to look at a better way to do this for future updates. Film studio's that use the software would be getting rather peeved if another studio wasn't able to open and transfer edited models from one week to the next because they didn't have their key for their versions.

It's funny to see the same thing happen each time there is a new ZB release.
I think I got my email close to a week after release with 4.
Here is hoping I get mine soon :)
The slow one-email-at-a-time distribution system is because they're using the "Clever"bridge distribution system that brands each download with identifiable marks tied to us. Every download link is essentially a personalized version of the product. Supposedly this will reduce piracy. IMHO it simply slows up legitimate users from using their software.
At least they got rid of the hideous system they had before Cleverbridge which would loose activation if you had a RAID or connected a RAID (even temporarily) to your system.

I don't know why they use this kinda system in emailing out randomly thousands and thousands of codes to email addreses. They could have simply uploaded it for download and allowing you to use your original code for R4.0 or for what ever version you have and reactivating it as normal. They need to look at a better way to do this for future updates. Film studio's that use the software would be getting rather peeved if another studio wasn't able to open and transfer edited models from one week to the next because they didn't have their key for their versions.
well for studio, it's kinda different because i think (i can't be 100% exact but possible) pixologic have special box of email dedicated to these studio that they will beta test the new zbrush version. which mean they already got their official Z4r2, contrary to singles clients that they could be pirate or real client, which pixologic prefer to send these golden ticket to real client.

Pretty much. Once again the pirates will be using it before I can. I wouldn't be as annoyed if I did not need dynamesh for something I am doing right now. :(

then it really would be just like working with clay...except you wouldn't need to wash your hands afterwards
then in z brush 6 they could introduce the "electronic clay" peripheral thats just like working with clay. including needing to be kept wet and ruining all your clothes.
Whats the betting I get my unused pc license before my mac license when I do finally get an email. Last time I got them separately. Hope they just send them both together in one email.

Cleverbridge doesn't seem to be that clever then, in 5 years or 10 years time we are going to be waiting 2 to 4 weeks just to get a code activation email for the software. Cleverbridge should be resigned to the dustbin especially if users are going to paying for future updates. If things do change we will wonder why the **** they didn't do it years ago, and you don't need to be clever to easily find dodgy versions on the net. Why penilise your paying customers with antiquated software technology when you could use secure encripted licensing technology instead.

anyone have their r2 yet?
was wondering if bringing in sculptris meshes and dynameshing would convert to all quads!
and now that the docs are up, it is interesting to see that dynamesh is a manual remeshing, not automatic. which is fine but not something that was discernible from the vids.
but for sculpting at least, especially with the notion that dynamesh is primarily for low to mid range levels of detail, sculptris is still a very viable companion tool.

If CleverBridge were clever - they could use the Amazon Compute cloud to handle the huge spike in demand.
It is designed to be used for situations like this - infrastructure on demand.

Remesh has always been able to remesh an all quads mesh whatever you throw at it...is the way voxels work regardless of the input topology... Dynamesh being based on the same principle should be able to do so u dont need to wait for Z4R2 to do this...just import your sculptris mesh and remesh it....
Now the real question in this is why the heck would you like to do that? the locally subdivided triangulated mesh coming from Sculptris is by definition better than an all quad mesh...
Now it might be an "all quad" mesh still doesnt guarantee you an animation friendly mesh at all...
So basically you have 2 cases...you are just sculpting for concept in which case nobody cares iif ts an all quad mesh or
You are retopologizing for rigging in which case remesh wont help despite been all quads because there is no flow to it...its grid like.

You ever try to sculpt on Sculptris tri mesh , or any kind of tris for that matter, in Zbrush? If you had, I dont think you'd be asking that.

Yeah, I feel your pain two fold. I just crippled my Z4 and, not even the reinstall worked. Such a sad clown I am. Hope to get my copy soon. Just rendered this in Z4 Yesterday and I am wicked excited. My new comp burned through this render animation (http://www.mahspot.com/assets/video/pbt.html) in under an hour! 8 cores (http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-2600K+%40+3.40GHz) of Micro Monkey Fun!
PS - The render was 4X (http://www.mahspot.com/Z4/paddleboat_fly_movie_01.mov) this posted size at 24 fps with bpr.

Here is an idea to the pixologic team:
Have paid priority downloads. That way those of us who don't want to wait a week to get the release and who need the software sooner can pay and jump the line and those are that alright with waiting can wait and get it for free. That way everybody is happy.

Ah yes, we are right on schedule with our Stages of Grief in the usual Pixologic release week hellscape.
1)Denial.
"I'm going to get that new program at midnight, the morning of, right?"
2) Anger.
"Blaaaarggghhh!" , "I don't under stand why Pixologixc is so...determined to be so...why they would choose....why can't I...why wont they...so backwards...trying to punish their customers...I'm going to use X software instead!"
3) Bargaining* (where we are now)
"I will pay you for the program!", "But I need this brand new tool that Ive never worked with for X job, that I took based on a theoretical piece of software...my need is great!" "Why can't we just pay for updates?...Then everything would be the way I want it, because that is always the case with paid software updates!"
4)Depression (<--where I am currently)
"It's been two weeks. I'm never going to see this thing. I'm always last on the list. It probably isnt that great anyway."
and finally...
5)Acceptance
*Shrugs.* "This is just the way of the Pixo. It's strange out here on the cutting edge, but I can't get what I get here any where else really, and I'm getting it for free."
(note: Acceptance still won't get you your download link, you'll just feel better about it)

Dynamesh is damn awesome. I've been playing around with it for about an hour and I can't believe the possibilities. It's literally like slapping pieces of clay, one on top of another. While I really liked the Z4 release, I was somewhat underwhelmed. This one is just incredib;e, and I've only just scratched the surface. One word of advice for those who have seen the Dyanamesh vids; read the docs first. Pixo has given some really nice examples and instruction of how to use it. For those of you waiting, guys, it's well worth the wait!

This is correct. Gremlins got in the works and the .zip file you'll download gets named to .exe which keeps it from working. But after you download it, just rename it back to .zip and you'll be good to go!

Zspheres aren't obsolete. Yesterday's Creature Workshop had Cesar Dacol Creating the Alien from the Alien movies beginning with a Zsphere armature. Awesome work. So think of Zspheres as still very useful. And one can still use the Zsphere armature as a rig to pose the final sculpt.

I willl keep using zspheres too... i think they are the best way to start a character and play with proportions and poses... then you can bring your mesh to dynamesh etc... but my first step will be zspheres for the most of the cases. of course, it depends of hat i am going to sculpt.

still no love from pixo in my inbox...
and just a suggestion for the next ZB release:
instead of making the global release date on day "X", but have customers possibly wait anxiously +7 extra days for the ZB release to arrive (while refreshing their emails every 5 minutes looking for the golden ticket, visiting the pixologic website every 10 minutes looking for goodies, jamming the forums looking to see if anybody else got their ZB yet, eagerly waiting as the days and minutes pass by, knowing that somebody is already happily playing with their new toy and youre not), how about setting the official release date an extra 7 days (or more) ahead of your anticipated last email delivery date and "surprise" us when we get our ZB gift earlier?
it would probably take a few days before people chimed in that the updates were being distributed earlier and jam the website and forums looking for answers... heck, by that time most of the customers would most likely have their copies and it would keep them from having nervous twitches (and writing nervous emails) leading up to the time they got their new ZB.
i know, it sounds diabolical and i'm no e-commerce mastermind but it might... just... work... good thinking batman!
a n y w a y s.... i still love this company and the product they deliver and what they represent to the digital arts world (and pretty much everything else about them) so i will now go happily shut my pie hole, make myself another bloody caesar (or 10) and wait patiently for my present to arrive ;)

I have a question to whoever has R2. Has the retopology tools been enhanced or fixed in any way, i.e the visability of topology showing through from the back of the object, this for me either means Dynamesh is purly a concept tool, rather than a part of the final production, as currently retopology is imposible, and no workaround iv seen has ever worked to bring it to how it was working in v3.5?
Thanks.
As a matter of interest - how many ZBrush license owners exist ?
Luxology IMO has the most user-friendly download and licensing solution in the business, so urge Pixologic to have a look at how they solved it...

Yes, I was just having a little joke. Clearly Zshperes still have distinct uses, especially with rigging, or making very specific types of shapes in Zbrush. And of course you still have to use them to make use of Zbrush's ponderous retopo features. But I do think zspheres and zsketching are largely obsolete for the purpose they were originally intended...quickly blocking out rough form. That boat sailed for me with Sculptris, and now with dynamesh too, I presume. There are far better, faster options both in and outside of Zbrush now.
Obviously, preferences differ.

Why do you find it strange that a business would obviously cater to new money coming in? How would you feel if you wanted to buy a new downloadable product, fork down money, and be put on hold for a week to get it? This is a product we've had forever, that we get free updates for. You have to be able to see a clear distinction there.
If you want to be taken care of immediately, the option to by a new copy of the program is available to you as well. It's not like you don't have the same access.
If it makes you feel better, just think of it as those new purchases are helping to pay for and develop your *free* update.

yah agreed. I havent funded the cause in over a year. sombody else said maybe they should have said a release on the 27th and surprise us all would have been better and I tend to agree with that as well.

I dont advocate that a business play games. Being up front and keeping your customers informed is the only way to go about things. Either way, people are going to be unhappy when they find out other people have the program, and they dont. The difference is, in that case, the company is being deliberately coy or even dodgy about making it happen, and we know how the public responds to that sort of thing. The coverup is always worse.
One way or another some people are going to be disappointed. Better to be up front and informed about the situation, so we can deal with it like adults. I prefer to be treated like an adult, even if the situation makes me want to behave like a child.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to continue sharpening this pointed stick, and making a tribal necklace out of soda caps for when I go completely feral by the end of the week with no R2.

It's always the worst when the doubts about the validity of your email address start creeping in, and you know you cant do anything about it until next week.
I actually had to change my email address with Pixo support over the past few months, so I've fertile soil for doubt there.

------------------------------------------------------------
Dear scott,
We are thrilled to be so close to the next major update for ZBrush: ZBrush 4R2!
ZBrush 4R2 is packed with new and exciting features, additions and changes designed to fit your needs and the way you work. While the release itself is still a few days away, we wanted to help you prepare now by providing the following info to explain exactly how the upgrade will be done.
Here are 3 sneak-peek videos about some of the exciting features you will find in R2:
http://www.pixologic01.com/email/1109-activation/z4r2-sp2.jpg (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=152654) http://www.pixologic01.com/email/1109-activation/z4r2-sp3.jpg (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=157573) http://www.pixologic01.com/email/1109-activation/z4r2-sp4.jpg (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=160240)
Step 1: Receiving Your Upgrade Email
http://www.pixologic01.com/email/1109-activation/line.gif
Beginning September 20, Cleverbridge will begin sending emails with your download link and serial number. This email will be sent to everyone who has purchased ZBrush 4 or upgraded to it from an earlier version.
Please save that email for your future records! You will need your serial number should you ever have to reinstall or reactivate ZBrush 4R2.
Due to the large volume of emails to be sent out, it may take up to a week for your email to be received. Please be patient. You can contact Pixologic or Cleverbridge after September 27th if you have not yet received your email notification.
Step 2: Installation
http://www.pixologic01.com/email/1109-activation/line.gif
Note: Do not deactivate ZBrush 4 or uninstall it prior to installing the upgrade!
The download link in your upgrade email will deliver the ZBrush 4R2 installer.
After downloading, double-click the installer to launch it. The installer will guide you through the installation options. The “Complete” installation option is recommended. This installs ZBrush in the default location and with all included plugins and documentation.
Note: Should you wish to make changes to the default options (such as specifying a different installation location) you may choose the “Custom” install option.
Step 3: Activation
http://www.pixologic01.com/email/1109-activation/line.gif
Upon first launching ZBrush 4R2 it will need to be activated. It is not necessary to deactivate or remove ZBrush 4 before installing version 4R2.
If your computer is connected to the internet, choose Web Activation. PLEASE ONLY CHOOSE PHONE ACTIVATION IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO CONNECT TO THE INTERNET.
Your web browser will open to a page asking for your serial number, email address and a computer description. Submitting this info will create your activation code, which you then copy and paste into ZBrush to complete your activation.
If ZBrush 4 is already activated on this computer you will see a message confirming this. In that case, click the button to "request a copy of your activation key". This will create a new activation code without counting this computer as a new machine.
Note: If you receive a message that you are out of activations, click the button to "View Activation History". This will list the computers currently counting against your serial number so that you can request removal of any copies you no longer have access to. Please allow a few hours for processing. An email will be sent to you once complete and you may then restart your Web Activation.
Note: If your computer is not connected to the internet and you must do a phone activation you will still need the serial number from your upgrade email. Please have it ready before calling. Be aware that wait times will be unusually long during the first week or two after ZBrush 4R2 is released.
Step 4: Using the New Features
http://www.pixologic01.com/email/1109-activation/line.gif
By default, your ZBrush 4R2 installation includes a Documentation folder. Within this folder you will find PDF’s covering the new features in ZBrush 4R2 as well as everything that was introduced in version 4.
Following the release of ZBrush 4R2 we will also be updating the Education section of www.pixologic.com (http://www.pixologic.com/?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Pixologic%3A+ZBrush+4R2+Upgrade+Previ ew&utm_source=YMLP&utm_term=www.pixologic.com) to include videos demonstrating the new features.
Thank You!
On behalf of the entire Pixologic Team, we would like to thank you for being valued members of our community. It is the enthusiasm and support of our users that drives us to constantly push the limits of computer art and even redefine what digital modeling is.
We are excited to be able to provide ZBrush 4R2 to you as a free upgrade. Be sure to post your creations at ZBrushCentral (http://www.zbrushcentral.com)!
Sincerely,
The Pixologic Team

well read mine. you may have to wait until the 27th to fix it if step 1 is any indication. go into your account and verify your current email address is your PRIMARY email address. i recall you can have alt's on pixologic. delete any old ones.
but i have my doubts that any new email addresses will be part of the randomisation. you'll probably get thrown on the end of the line. or you might just get sent the link straight away. good luck either way

I did not get the "get ready for ZBR2" email either though I did get the Sculptris one. I just hope I don't have to wait til the 27th and then have to jump through a bunch hoops with Cleverbridge to get the update. We may be stressing for nothing ( I hope that's the case). I don't think I can take 5 more days of this.

i didn't get the sculptris one...but i'd hazard thats due to me opting out of newsletter style spam from this site. i dont like sculptris much but if the paint options are better than zbrush's and use actual mapped pixels rather than coloured polygons it may have a revival on my pc.

Its totally random, and dont worry its only the 22nd, it just started yesterday at around midnight.
Just got mine! Activation went smoothly, though I had to look up my serial number on an old email sent to me from ZB support.
Only downside is the download age for all the plugins is down because of high volume. 8(

I HAVE AN IDEA!!!
maybe we can all cross-reference WHEN EXACTLY we all got our sculptris and welcome to R2 emails to see if THOSE were sent out randomly or alphabetically, and THEN we will know how/when pixologic send out emails (maybe between coffee breaks, during certain hours, from potentially which time zones) and we can try to decipher what REALLY goes on behind the decision at pixo and cleverbridge!!
this is insane... i cant imagine what posts on this thread will look like if people are still waiting for their ZB, dare i say, into next week!!

i'm pretty sure the plugins are generally written by others and z brush merges them in if their popular. pixo writes zbrush. if they want to add other features they can release patches. their will probably be another zbrush release in a few weeks with fixes for the more horrific errors. it's what happened last time
I see. Thanks moose o death. Fingers crossed this is something Pixologic see as an important update. :)

i disagree with that. the beauty of pixologics plan for free upgrades is that people that have moved into the other rival apps will give it another go to try the new features risk free.
having paid maintenance like autodesk would deter people from trying the new features especially if the software they have been using works fine for them. pixo's trying to draw the wanderers back. they're business relies on studio's and the hobbyists wanting to keep costs down. they need a constant inflow of new users.
if they went down the path of paid updates, the users not happy with feature xyz. or the non-maya interface (what is so good about that interface?) wouldn't try the new features unless something particularly impressive was mentioned.
before you mention opting into getting the update first and everyone else getting it free a week later. you can do that now. it costs 699 a license and is available in the store right now
Well said moose o death, and yep if you can't wait, then buy it again now the full price of zbrush isn't much different then the upgrade price of mudbox.
Me... i'm happy to wait and very grateful for everything pixologic does, apart from an AWESOME software, they give me a refreshed faith in companies. What they do is unheard of with all the other software companies.
Keep up the amazing awesome work!

I have no email yet, has anyone got theirs today, or within the last 2 hours? I would like to know how they process these emails, maybe Pixologic should look for a beter solution like Luxology uses, bittorrent, and licence key in the account, no fuss.
Here in the Uk its Friday 23rd 11:am

okay this is for those who were wondering if not getting the "get ready for 4R2" email will effect getting the update and here is what I found out.
"I have just double checked your account in the system. The correct email address is on record. Also, failure to receive the preview email will have nothing to do with the upgrade email. The preview email was sent by us while the upgrade email will be sent by Cleverbridge." ~aurick
ok so I assume since cleverbridge got the email correct last fall that I have nothing to worry about and you either.
hope that helps :D
