John McGuinelly's co-workers at the Diamond Insurance Agency gradually noticed that he was making quite a few trips to the supply closet. They razzed him about it, and he would joke that he's just so productive that he needed more supplies than the average worker.

But soon the trips became so frequent that it wasn't funny anymore. The jokes stopped, and concerned, sideways glances and water cooler gossip become the response to his behavior.

Eventually, this issue came to the attention of the higher-ups, and John was called in to explain himself. He wasn't stealing, so what was the problem? After some prodding, he confessed to being inexplicably "drawn" to the closet, a sensation only satiated by going there. He was asked to curb his trips to the supply closet.

He tried, but became obviously nervous and agitated when he resisted. The trips to the closet resumed.

When called back again, upon seeing him, his supervisors had to listen; John's face was strangely twisted, as if it was taffy being pulled by unseen fingers. He claimed that whenever he was outside the closet, the pulling sensation was so strong as to be painful. He could feel his head distorting in the direction of the closet no matter where he was in the office.

Being a long time valued employee, his supervisors decided to let John set up his desk in the supply closet, a solution that was quite acceptable by him.

John no longer needed to leave his desk once it was set up in the closet, and his productivity rose once more. Unfortunately, he also became unable to leave or go home and has since taken up residence in the supply closet. The visits from his family have dropped considerably (speculation that there has been a divorce) but he remains a valued member of the Diamond Insurance Agency team.

As always, questions or comments welcome

This is a very interesting, (and yet nicely twisted), reality you're creating here Ken...
Will we one day see a picture taken at the Diamond Insurance Agency company picnic?

And if so, will you email me a warning so I can increase my medication beforehand?
Wonderful piece!

It's the textures I can't stop looking at.

Very well done. Full of substance, weight, grain, and warmth. All those "parts" that are murder to achieve. Incredible stubble.

His eye's and tear ducts are completely believeable in their current positions. Very nice.

The jaw and teeth also substantiate the theory of being pulled.

You nailed the hair.

The tongue is perfect.

I know I should be paying attention to the joke and story, but it's so well executed on a level I haven't even come close to. Wow.

What you are doing is amazing. That's the best skin texture I have seen to date. The overall concept/storyline, well, a huge thumb's up!

This is hilarious. The beer in my fridge has the same gravitational pull on me when I get home from work. The detail and exactness of the teeth and lips is astounding. One minor critique - the nostril holes don't seem deep enough. The story is great. I like how you don't explain why he's so attracted to the supply closet, but a happy ending once again anyway :D

Thank you all so much for your comments. I'm thrilled you liked the image and story. They are certainly fun to do.

The nostrils could have been deeper, I agree.
The teeth and tongue had a modified toy plastic material. I kept a little mirror by the computer to look at my own inner mouth, and probably looked as bizarre as the image while working on it.

Ken, the only thing more twisted than your sense of humor is this poor guy. :) I'm sure that Clive Barker will be calling you any day now to be the art director for Hellraiser XXIV.

Once again, many compliments on your modeling and texturing work. Most impressive! Did you use a sphere or a spherinder for your base?

I also really like the way that you did his hair and eyebrows. Great technique, and use of the Fiber Brush.

hi aurick,

I used a sweep profile to make the basic head shape, adjusted to a tubular form, open ended down by the neck and rounder at the head. I've been trying to start with a base that's close to the shape I'm trying end up with, rather than pulling a sphere. It seems to work out pretty good.

It's tough to get a longer hair look with the fiber brush, but you can get decent results if you build up the fibers slowly with a few color shade changes. A light use of the smudge brush can lengthen the hairs and you can then go in and sharpen up any blury areas if you want.
