i originally set out to experiment with transparency of overlapping objects the 3d-copy-way but as the confused person i am, got lost between markers, 3d-copying textures off objects deeper down on z-axis, deleting objects, and reproducing them via the markers at another order of appearance to allow 3dcopies of overlapping ones and so on :D... finally i faked some kind of transparency by fiddling with the environmental reflect of the material-modifiers and enabling render/environment/scene. hope you like it!
any pointers to threads or hints re: transparency of overlapping objects as well as comments in general would be most appreciated!

yep. I told you, hansl, they are going to love it =D
I love it too.
This is far and beyond the MOST beautiful and peaceful piece I've seen to date.
HOW did you "fiddle" to create this?
J, I think you more than acomplished what you set out to do. I hope you can recall how you did it, as we would all like to give it a try.

so sorry, DeeVee: i can’t remember it... :( in fact i did it a few weeks ago, uploaded it to Digits server and then forgot about it for some reasons (i can’t remember, too :D) i think the main ingredients were a) the background texture which i improved for some time, b) trying to 3d-copy (transformation-window/3d-copy when the object is in edit-mode and was dragged into front) it to all the objects and c) setting the material/modifiers/environment reflect to something like 40 and the render/environment/scene/fieldofview to mayhaps 90???... ah, yes: d) the shadow was z-mode (lighting-window/modifiers) and it’s length set very high... the pic was originally done 640x480 but i rotated it later on in photoshop and liked it better that way. that’s not much, but maybe enough to encourage you to do experiments of your own, i hope!
thank you for your kind comments, my friends! :D

nice pic good job came out real good for a soild background which can be hard to do.
did you copy that on a 3d plane? try a 3d cude i haven't tryed it but maybe it can make it have more depth.
i perfer incerting more then over laping with a color to show the depth and transparecy.
if you want to use the same object with out adding color you might give it a bit of a tint off the arginal pic or adjust the lighting & shandow.
heres a pic i made a while back http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=97411&Start=1&Artist=E%2DZ&ByArtist=Yes

Nice effect, and a unified color scheme...
A very sucessful experiment! :tu: :tu: :tu:
So cool. What a great atmosphere.
Sometimes I "Fake" Transparency by placing tools with just a material, no RGB. Gell Shaders A and B look good. This also allows you to have shadows....
Juandel, this is absolutely, stunningly, beautiful! OK, now you've got to do it all over again, and post the script!
We're waiting.................. :)

Your experimetation results in some very beautiful imagery. I am, along with everyone else, enjoying what you are accomplishing. Keep it going, juandel!
Juandel, the mad scientist of ZBrush. You should get a job in the R&D department at Pixologic. Ditto to everything said about this. It has the feeling of a hand tinted photo. What material is it, or do the render settings surpass any material properties here? It's gorgeous whatever it is :tu:

ah, thank you so much, my friends! :D i had a hard time to find that .zbr-file... in fact it was saved in a folder i had named "Margritte" to have something at hand when Stonecutter’s :tu: :tu: :tu: idea (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=5&t=000140) would take off (which it didn’t until now :()
here is the material (http://www.cyber-webs.com/zbrush/BasicMaterialrefl.zmt), nothing special, i think i just set the environment reflect up.
here is a render to show you what i did the 3d-copy way... at this time, the environment-render in the render-pallette is off:
http://www.cyber-webs.com/zbrush/transparentm.jpg
and these were the render settings when i went for the reflectivity:
shadows and coloradjustment ON
antialiasing: blur 56, edge 100, size 6, super sample 3
environment:  these were not saved, so i just tried to reproduce the effect and came pretty close when doing this: scene ON, trace 100, repeat 4, field of view 30
lights: the 2 default suns (as i mentioned, the pic was rotated in photoshop later on), with shadows ON for the first one: intensity 75, length 249, z-mode on, blur 4.
as far as i could reproduce them, those are the ingredients :D i think i used a blur in photoshop, too, mayhaps twice. thank you all for your enthusiasm! :D

:b4: edit: thank you for that great and :tu: :tu: :tu: tip, Kaz! using only material (M-in the draw-window) seems to be a great approach!!!
here is an experiment... the layer was simply filled with the texture and then the snails were placed with only M and Zadd on:
http://www.cyber-webs.com/zbrush/snailonlym.jpg
for the one below one layer was filled with the texture, the snails were placed by the same method as above, but on another layer. flattenlayers was switched OFF, the transparency-slider in the gel-shader-material-modifiers was set to 98. for the one the arrow points to was i switched from "M" to "MRGB" and pressed 3d-copy in the transformation-window:

Wow, it's a wonderful work my friend
I've never saw such a fantastic transparency
effect before :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:

Oh my, these are totally awesome images!!! :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:
Here is an example of using just material on a 3d brush, well, a little RGB added for the cloudiness...

Hey juandel - don't know what this is but I sure like it :tu: All I saw was flowing glass with convoluted reflections, with a restrained color scheme - looks old.
Then I see your next post without the transparency and saw the simplicity of the shapes which eluded me entirely when first viewing the original image - the original flowed together while the second was just discreet shapes.
A little magic goes a long way :D

Juandel, seeing your reference to my proposed 'Magrittes Problems' thread, made me feel guilty...Thanks for the push my friend, and I'll get the thread started imminently! The FIRST CATEGORY so people can get ready is ENLARGEMENT OF A DETAIL, and I will start the thread, and post the starting image.
(Walks off grumbling about his conscience kick-start...)
Only kidding, Juandel, and I promise we'll all have a good time with this one, and it will be thanx to you, bud!
