Before to start to paint over the texture duplicate it !!
In this way u can return to original textuture in any moment !!!

In order to prevent this happening in the first place, turn off all MRGB modes in the Draw palette.

I know how to avoid this from happening, but I suspect I am not the first one and certainly not the last one to whom this is happening.

I just thought is was not normal to be unable to undo this, so my inquiry was more about knowing if this was a bug or not.

You are not alone :D
It's the first problem when you start with modeling in ZBrush :)
DON'T HESITATE to "clone" your texture before any manipulation as Mr Braun said :)
For the little story, I have made exactly the same post than your a long time ago :)

Bonjour Pilou,

Comme je le constate, toi aussi considères que c'est un problème (tout comme ce doit l'être pour tous ceux à qui ça arrive). Je suppose que cela va être arrangé dans une version ultérieure.
Ayant déjà été impliqué dans le "beta testing", c'est ce qui me pousse d'instinct à signaler ces petits riens qui accrochent au passage lors de l'apprentissage.

As I see, you consider this a problem too, just as all of us experiencing it. Not a big problem, sure, but still a problem always encountered at an early stage of the learning process of this wonderful program.
Anyway, I guess this will be fixed in the next version.
I've been involved into beta testing before, so I guess this is why I posted about it in the first place.
