I'm total newbie with ZBrush and have done only a little UV mapping in Lightwave. I have modeled basis of a mermaid in Lightwave and sculpted it in ZBrush.

Here someone (froyd) who has used ZBrush a bit longer tried applied basic checker texture on my model http://www.froyd-euch.de/daten/texture_problem.jpg

Even the UV tiles have some problems, but not nearly as many as with UVC. I applied a UV texture in lw, but no uv texture was seen in ZB.

Any workflow hints for this kind of work? Many ppl have used maya->zb->maya, I'd really like to see some helpage on this uv-importing matter. Any help will be greatly appreciated and noted.

In order for Lightwave to export the UVs you need to assign a texture to a surface attribute before exporting from Lightwave. For example, for the color attribute enter the texture editor, set Layer Type to Image Map, Set projection to UV and set UV Map to whatever UV set you want to export. No need to assign an image as well.

I guess Lightwaves .OBJ exporter does not see any UV maps unless you have one assigned.

How the checker image wraps onto the model depends on your UVs.

What about multiple uv maps? I have a character that has like 5 UV maps which all seem to import into ZB2. But how can I paint on one UV and not have it effect the other 4 uv's at the same time?

I have done all of the above steps - but I just can't get ZBrush to read in the UV's that I made.

I know this must be something dead simple -- what am I missing?

I Open the tools > Import and find my OBJ with UV's (I have verified that the UV's are there)

Drag it out on my workspace, click on edit -- then I move to the texturing -- so where to tell it that I want to use the already existing UV's ?
