It's been over a year since Dark Knight made his first appearance at the ZAcademy. Since I'm re-rendering some of my works for a future project, thought I'd post this revised version here. This version of Batman was radically inspired by Simon Bisley's rendition of this intriguing hero.

As you can see., it has changed quite a bit from the old version which was done prior to the release of ZBrush version 1.

I didn't realize how the newer version of ZBrush can changed an old image dramatically.
Version 1.21 allowed me to alter the materials I used without even doing any touch up painting. I adjusted the parameters on the material settings, add noise and increased the noise radius. (these functions weren't available during the earlier versions.) But the biggest thing was the ability of the new version to load/save materials and swap whatever existing materials you have.
I wanted to change the cape material before but I was stuck with it because this functionality wasn't available then.

I wasn't really that happy with my first Batman and v.1.21 allowed me to get closer to the result I wanted to achieve.

Like the majority of my work., this is 100 percent done in ZBrush. (including the background)

Holy Pixol! Batman! That is quite a makeover!

That is truly Zbrush's superpower that I never seen mentioned in these reviews that I read. Is that wonderful ability to completely modify material properties of an image on the fly and even years later and across versions as in your case. Wow! Kapow!

Hey Saint - it certainly was worthwhile for you to revisit this image. The latest incarnation is much better :tu: :tu: :tu:

I think the true power of ZBrush lies in it's painting capabilities - yes the modeling aspect is superb but it is the texturing that breathes life into the image. I'm envious of those who have a natural hand-eye ability to paint - it's obvious you do along with the vision upon which to build :D

Looks great, Nikko.

Dark Knight has been one of my favorites since Frank Miller brought out the old guy...one of my favorite series.

Nice to see the before and after, too.
