Due to my scripting problems, the script isn't ready yet, however, I prepared a text tutorial.

First, I started off with a preliminary sketch:

http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1005014863tgd.jpg

Next, I used a sphere object. I then masked out a basic hair shape (square for the face to show through and the bottom, leaving the areas for the top and sides of the hair unmasked).

http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1005014944qhb.jpg

I then inverted the mask and pressed "hide points".

http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1005015053cwv.jpg

Then I used I used Transform, Edit, to model the shape of the hair into something more natural.

For the next step, I used the snakehook tool to further define the hair. I also used the eraser tool somewhat as well.

Even more snakehooks:

Then I merged all my layers together, baked the remaining layer.

I set the picker color to "once". Then I select the simple brush tool, set the stroke type to freehand and the spacing to 0. This ensures an unbroken line while drawing. Make sure RGB is selected under the draw pallette. I set the draw size to "3". I then draw in fine hairs with the simple brush over my pre-existing hair.

When I have everything the way I want it, I then use the shader tool to add in shiny highlights to the hair, then I'm done.

This is fantastic. I hope to have time tomorrow to try it. The head model under the hair is pretty good also. You're getting darn good at this ZBrushing stuff. Thanks

Thanks very much, WingedOne, for a very thorough and informative tutorial. I used a slightly similar technique on a piece I did some time ago, Sinesssa (http://home.neo.rr.com/nikko/images/Sinesssa.jpg), but you took it a couple extra steps and made it more complete.

Lightup--

this technique is for 2.5d but can be made with some forethought into 3d.

There are I believe one or two more hair tutorials that are really good and think one of them is for 2d,2.5d while the other deals with a way to do things 3d.

a further search on hair will yield those up.....you can probably start maybe with the similar links at the bottom of this page.

I hope you're kidding.

Good technique OP, I love the snake hook brush, it's just too bad that it only works in 2.5d. . .
