Hi people, sorry that sounds crappy, hello my fellow artists (better).

I'm unsure of when the baking process should take place, for example before you do the paint work or after and what does the baking process actually do because everytime I try it, I seem to get no affect.

Thanks again guys/girls for getting me this far ;)

Yours untruly, oops I mean yours truly

lucky you, whenever i tried to bake something, i had quite unpredictable results (the same is true for baking cookies, cakes, whatever, seems i just got no talent for that). so, i have no idea, hoping for enlightenment too....

The term baking means turning all of the colors of a rendered layer into the flat-colored material. It's useful for achieving various effects, such as using the fiber brush for a more realistic look of hair or fur. Touch ups, such as using the blur brush, glow-brush, etc. It's also useful sometimes for transparency effects. Check out my hair tutorial at http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=002238 for a possible use of baking. It's usually best to bake just before finalizing your image. Also when I bake, I keep the previous unbaked version saved somewhere in case I need to go back. Sometimes baking isn't necessary at all, depending on what your needs are.
