Still, after flicking through the instruction booklet, I'm confused.
Which 3D formats does Z-Brush support for import and export? What I want to do is create something in for example 3ds MAX and then export it to Z-Brush, do some work, and then export my file from Z-Brush and import into 3ds MAX again.
Is this possible?

Objects can be imported/exported in the proprietary .ztl format or the .obj format.
Max 4 (don't know about 5) doesn't support .obj but it is easy enough to find free plugins for Max on the web that will convert Max files into and out of the .obj format. I have some but am afraid can't remember where I got them - didn't take long to find them though.

Thanks for the quick reply.
It's this 2.5D thing that's confusing. I mean, I'd love to use the Z-Brush interface to do my modeling and textures - it's so intuitive. But if I can't use the result in my preferred end application (presently 3ds MAX), then I really have no use for it.

Hi,
I am a newbie also. Here is a small program that will help you in a few ways.
http://models.firearmsmod.com/tutorials/files/modelling/n3o/n3oskinmeshtut.htm
It is called Lithunwrap, it is for UVmapping, but it also supports .OBJ .3ds .LWO MIlkshape, Unreal, quake 3, .MAX, .DXF, and quite a few other formats so you can import and export pretty easy.
The 3d studio formats might be old tho, it makes you tringulate the polys.
Lithunwrap is set up on a donation program, so you dont need to pay for it unless you find it useful. they have another realy nice product called Ultimate unwrap that supports a few other methods of UV mapping.
well hope this helps you out :)
