From the top-left:

1. Cylinder initialized with a center radius, and specific polygons selected with masking. (A torus can be used instead.)

2. size down (or up) and remove mask.

3. Divide 2 or 3 times, smoothing either inbetween each divide, or several times after dividing. Smoothing inbetween divides will make the tread shapes very smooth and rounded. Smoothing after the divides will create a blockier tread with small radii at the edges.

4. Perform various Deformations such as Radial Flatten, Spherical Flatten, and Spherize. Unwanted distortion can often be Smoothed out.

5. Mask one half of the tire and Twist 25 to 100%. Invert the mask and Twist in the opposite direction the same amount.

6. One or more center grooves can be created by dragging a selection mask around a strip of polygons in the middle of the tire. Invert the mask so that the strip of polygons are unmasked. Size down or twist to create the groove.

7. Selection of one half of the tire or a strip of polygons on the center-line of the tire is very easy. Select Alpha Brush #00, set Alpha:Blur to zero, hold the Control key down, and start dragging in an open area (not on the tire). A selection box will appear. Drag this around the polygons you want to select.

Hi Souleat
Another easily way is
-Take a ring 3D
- Mode Edit
- Select Mirror + Z + Radial Numbers(8 or more)
- Just Pull Push :)
(move or size possible too)
and of course deformation if you want :)
and you will realize fantastic tires

Hi Jay are you Dunlop or GoodYear or Bibendum (http://www.michelin.ca/ca/eng/bibendum/p1.htm)? :)

I like the wheel it's well done. I think it would look cool on some type of super ATV. :tu:

Wow, Jaycephus, how'd you create that diamond-like pattern? Was it done with an Alpha selection?

The diamond is a squashed cube saved as a tool. It is then arrayed into a ring of 16 diamonds, each one Multi-markered. I saved the ring as a polymesh. The base of the tire is a cylinder with an inner radius of about 70. I created an MM object consisting of the base cylinder and three rings of diamonds. I also created a half-diamond ring object by flattening 100% in one of the axes on the original diamond ring tool. This resulted in the half-diamonds. The half-diamond ring was placed on the sides, and a new polymesh was created from the MM object. The wheel and hub are modified cylinders, the ribs are a modified cube, and the nut is a polymesh made of a 3DCube initialized with 6 sides, a flattened cylinder for the base, and three elongated sphereinders for the stamping on top. Finally, the whole thing was turned into a single polymesh object.
