:b3:The Lighting Vault :b3:
Well, after remembering a comment Mentat said about a lighting thread. I'm changing this thread from a lighting setup to a Home of Lighting Setups or..The lighting Vault!
I have quite a few settings. I even have a pretty nice and realistic render that I use for both preview and best render. I just feel it looks excellent in preview. But first, let start with a simple one light Super GDI setting! :D :tu:
:b1:GDI Super Render :b1:

*model by Pixolator*
Okay, after reading a few choice Pixolator's threads, this is the product of playing around with the Material, Lighting, and Render settings. This is the same if not slightly tweeked settings I used in the artifact thread (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=011081&p=2). All materials have about the same parameters. Same for the light.
GDI-SuperRender.zip (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200305/user_file-1053630072kgp.zip)
Some info about the document:
:b3: Note the properties of the material used. From the ambience and diffusion curve to HDRI setting. You can select the right material by clicking the large material preview window in the Materials Palette and dragging it to a point on the document. The material is called Super GDI Mat. :D
:b3: Also note the Shadow settings of the single light used. Thats right...just one. GDI and light are maxed out and the falloff is adjusted as well as the ambience. Using only one light is something that I read in one of Pixolator's Pre-GDI test threads. Light is called Super GDI Light. :D :D
:b3: The document is designed to be at AA Half Zoom. The Rays and aperture reflect this. If you want to render shadows well at a normal zoom. Increase the ray count at about 150 to 200. Decreasing the Aperture setting to 25 and increasing the Blur to 5-7 will help as well.
:b3: File should work for demo users also though I haven't tested it. If it doesn't (due to custom canvas size) I will upload the full file when I get home.
:b3: Did I mention that its fast? Due to the amazing abilities of ZBrush, the rays can be set low and you will still have a decent render. Here is a tip for the final note. Set the rays to 3 or 5 when adjusting light positions and shadow lenght/intensity. This will lead to a superfast render. When your happy with everything set the rays and aperture to your desired number. This saves tones of time!
If you have any questions about the document or about some of the logistics of why it works then let me know.
Enjoy everyone and Happy ZBrushing!!
:b1: Here is another test :b1:
Super GDI 2
This is the one that looks decent with Preview Renderer. Zip includes material! ;)

Hi DP
JayCephus said from this thread ! (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=011052&p=1)
" AAHalf is the setting in ZBrush that automatically reduces your Zoom level to 50% and performs an Anti-Aliasing routine on your whole drawing. So that means that since I was working in a 1024 wide x 1536 tall document, in AAHalf mode the document is only 512 wide by 768 tall. This is also the size at which I exported, so that the export received the most effective Anti-Aliasing. I'm sure you knew this, but had just forgotten what it was called, right?"
Ctrl + 0 = AA View

Hope this help :)

This is a Verry very cool Idea!!
Thankyou Mahlikus The Black ,
I dont do well when reading tutorials, or Manuals...
I have best luck getting something already made and takeing it apart...
This is great for someone like me to learn...
I see example in front of me, Tweak, render and learn :)
If I come up with anything worth while I will be sure to share it here...
I am going to download and do some learning :)
Thanks again Mahlikus The Black , for this great Idea! and to everyone else who helped make this thread :)

Click on the active light's orange marker square. This toggles the light from front to back.

AgentSmith: That's very kind of you and thank you. I just love giving back to this community at least as much as I glean from it.
calum5ZB: I hope I may be able to do as much.
Brian Healy: V4 is by far my favorite as well because it was that material in the image that Pix posted that got me to try and crack the look. That process alone is fun to do and I miss picking apart Zimages and trying to figure out how to do it myself.

Hi there mahlikus, first off, congrats on such nice materials!!!!
On the other hand, is it me or is it that when using any of the materials you've kindly shared with us, does it slowdown the viewport performance?
If this truly is a bug or something, is there a workaround, I'd love to use your materials, they look awesome!
btw, I'm a complete zb n00b and I've installed the zmt in the materials folder, and the zlt to the lights folder, and afterwards I load them up in their respective Light/Material sections inside ZB....hope this is right.
Once again, thanks for your kind sharing and keep up the good work!

You all are very welcome and I am glad that I can give back.
As for the viewport issue, they are colorized trishaders so it you have low memory, low space on your HD, a low Video card, slow processor, or even all of the above then yeah, it will have an effect on the system.

I've been working on a skin material for a personal project and figured it might work to come close to the aforementioned ZB3 shader Pix used. This material is not too far off from the settings of the skin materials I used on my Santa and alien bounty hunter images. And actually working on this material gave me ideas for my next skin version.
So enjoy! Let's see some nice models with it!

This is my first post on this fine board, this is also my frist model using the ZBrush 2 demo, before i found this great program the only thing i ever used was Poser 6. I know some people might not consider it REAL art but it got me started.
At the point at which i took this picture i had spent about 2 hours. Thanks for the great material and light setting.
One question does any one have any "Skin material" as i would like to have some but have no clue as to where to start with the material bar?
