I keep meaning to post this, and never get around to it. My first major project with ZBrush, done earlier this year for the March cover of Computer Games Magazine. Aside from working on a tight deadline that required me to use the stock robot arm from Poser 4 (I would have prefered to model one from scratch), it turned out pretty much that way I wanted. Enjoy!

Wow! Fantastic illustration!
Looks like a skillful mix of applications to me. Love the white suits...well,... and everything!
How long did it take you to make this? Did you sketch it out first? Great concept. :tu:

I did sketch it out first, working in conjunction with the art director (we had a pretty good idea of how the layout was going go before I started on the final image). It took about a week and a half, start to finish, including all of my "getting up to speed on ZBrush" time. I learned some neat tricks in the process, particularly with regards to positioning imported 3D objects in a ZBrush scene.
Plus, it was fun. =)

I remember this! I have a copy of it at home somewhere. Never imagined it was done with ZBrush though. Wowsers!

Awesome work on this. Are you on the staff, or did you somehow land the honor of doing the cover? I would be beside myself if one of my pics ended up on a magazine cover.

I would be most interested in hearing your techniques on how to position imported models!
