There is very big difference between Demo and full version!
With the demo you can't save any thing else a Psd format image (max 640*480)
When you save a normal document you reload just an image 2D without any tools!
You have just 640*480 canvas
You can't polymeshing a multi marker
You can't import any photos (for textures)
But you can make something ;) (I am demo user
You can load and play any script (made for 640*480)
You can load any objects
You must work in mono session!
Make your choice :)
Don't hesitate to take a graphic tablet if you want make some drawings or painting or zbrush sculpting :)
a mini A6 like a Wacom Volito (40 dollars)is suffisant for all no professional works!
It's not the size who is important, it's your brain who makes all the work :)
You make drawing like with a pencil !
Look at the marcel drawing in this thread :) (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=000927)
Impossible to make the same with a mouse in the same time ;)
Life of this sort of thing is 10 years!!!
Hope this help!

The most important difference: by paying for what you've got you make ZBrush 3.x possible!!
And for the tablet: ZBrush should NOT be sold without it, honestly NOT!!

my advice is always...
1. If you can afford it get it...
2. You can't afford to not have the Z in your arsenal.
3. Right now is the best time to get it before the next release / free final upgrade and price increase. (so you save money by getting it now)
4. I agree also that you should get a tablet. It's like the difference between night and day. So much more natural feeling with a stylus in your hand as opposed to a mouse, though I did get good with a mouse, there is nothing like holding something pencil like in your hand to do this stuff..
5. Opinion on the demo...it is just that ...a demo....you cant save, import, export models and all the kewl stuff...you are limited on the canvas size...and when the upgrade comes out, the demos seem to take a bit to catch up with the releases....so with all that said....
Buy the full version and also get yourself a tablet....if you can afford a larger tablet get it, but the small wacom works just fine...I am happy with mine.

@ senate: considering the tablet: WACOM, Intuos. It is DIN A 5, and that will be all you need for ZBrush. Why Wacom when other tablets might be cheaper?
Because of the precision and the overall quality, because you will never run into problems when you need drivers or replacements (the tip on my pen now is in use the third year, 5 tips had been supplied....!!).
I bought one of them cheaper ones - no Wacom - some years ago: batterys iniside the pen, driver problems >>> it went to the garbage soon. No use trying this again ;) .
EDIT: about size >>> first I had one of them real huge Wacoms but i found out soon enough, that I used only one third of it. It took up the best part of my desk - my daughter has it now, still works (the Wacom :D ), after almost 6 years!

I have a tablet, but prefer my optical mouse.
However you do what you do,,,,you will enjoy Zbrush.
