View Full Version : Young Chopin
Ah well, I tried for a young Chopin with an image I have here. But, I didn't quite make it. Image was ok enough to post though. I'm going to start working on trying to make something look like somebody. :D
The image I was working from was a print from an old pre 1910 music book I have. I'm actually working up to some of the paintings in that book. The artists rendering of Chopin has a much skinnier chin, a much more pronounced nose and crooked ears. The book has some awesome stuff, black and white and I'm hoping I can get enough practice to start converting those to Z images. :D Anywhoo, here's my first shot at a young Chopin.

Thanks for the comments. It wasn't until I got this up and was looking through a book I got that I noticed a modeling flaw. I've look again all day today in all the resources I was learning from here at ZBC and Loomis and it's the same. Funny how long we look at something before we actually *see* what's there.
Although most modelers already know this, it has taken me until today to realize that the ear is connected to the jaw bone and neck. In another thread Muvlo mentioned about making the neck first. I just never connected the thoughts about it. :D
It didn't strike me until too late last night, and with study today along with a little practice, shows this not only reduces the amount of deformation of the sphere, but also lends itself almost naturally to creating the features. So, learned something new and instead of putting up yet another blank head, I'll wait until I finish something more substantial.
Thanks again for your comments. :D
Very nice Vikki!
The bottom of the ears are where the jaw meets the neck like you discovered. Also if viewing the head straight on, they would be from about the brow bone to the upper lip in height.
You're really coming along with the modelling. Keep up the great work :tu:

I second the motion...Your modelling is coming along great! Proportion takes a little time to understand, but once you have it, you have it forever! ;)

Well I think he is quite hansome anyhow! I only wish I could do as well!
Good going :tu: :tu: :tu:
Hey Vikki, even if that is not quite the Chopin you were hoping for, that picture has presence: the directness of gaze that mystics and innocents and the certain have, a little sfumato and smirk like Mona Lisa or Mrs. Peel ... overall a very nice image :)
Thanks again for the comments!
Tami, that was one of the very things that eluded me so much. Although the drawings I've looked at show it, I wasn't really seeing that either.
Stonecutter, thank goodness because this is really hard work learning this stuff and I'd hate to lose it after all this work. I finally got hair off the skull! Woohoo! :D
An artist I'll never be, but at least I'll be able to make something that resembles what I want. :D Can't draw a lick on paper. Z really puts the potential in the fingertips, erm mouse! :D
Havran, your comment is wonderful. Thank you for that!
Thank you Northstarr! :D
Vikki well done! Your modeling has really moved along rapidly. Congratulations! :tu: :tu: :tu: :D
Your models are looking better all the time, great job! :tu: :tu: :tu:
