Hi,

I've decided that pixolator must look something like this :) being the master of Z that he is.

http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200401/user_image-1073962121biv.jpg

I always wanted to model yoda. just starting to feel confident enough to approach it.

i started with an image of yoda and approached this in a similar way to Gary Komars Zandra Wip (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=013110)

i used the image as a texture base and built up colour over the top.

Thanks to TV eyes for helping sort out my symmetry problem :tu: :tu:

think i'll take this guy through to a final comp. so next stage...body and clothes.

thanks for lookin :)

Quite impressed.

Though, I think that body may be about 25% larger than it should be. Yoda's got funky proportions...

Cool model of Yoda!
Recall me this of Ken Brilliant (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=005849)
Have happy Zbrushing!

Beautiful work!
What is he wearing under the robe?
If you put a glass of champagne in his hand, you would have a GQ cover.
Truly awe-inspiring !!!

hey cool frenchy.thats an awesome yoda of kens.he's got real attitude :tu:

OK so he's all together but it's bedtime for me. i'll rig him tomorrow so i can put him in a nice pose and a proper composition. he's also gonna need a light saber i think.

http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200401/user_image-1073996510bkx.jpg

for those wondering, he's standing with his arms outstretched because it's an old jedi meditation technique. yoda's pretty good at it. (he'll be standing like that till tomorrow at least :)

EDIT: oops sorry bout the compression.

thanks kitty and ryter

looks like a kind of stationary Qigong -- the hard part is keeping your ears parallel to the floor

nice bump on the robe fabric -- looks comfy to me -- I like the stucco walls, too

looking forward to more progressions :)

Hi :) here the first test of him rigged and posed. having serious problems with the weighting of his bones so far. it's been like putting a skeleton in a sack of potatoes and expecting it to act like a humanbeing. it's a beautiful sunny day here in wellington so i'm off to the beach. i will try and sort him out tonight. :)

http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200401/user_image-1074052528zot.jpg

any ideas for a final pose would be good. i was thinkin about makin him some lightsaber chopsticks and have him eatin sushi or something :D

thanks for looking :)

darn you NZ people having summer at this time of year! ;)

maybe a scene we haven't seen yet, like Yoda pouring tea, arranging rocks, feeding goldfish or making a stir-fry, something along those lines :D

hmmm Yoda light sabering a rock garden would be my vote.

Looks very cool, and at this point I can only dream of making such a thing LOL
but if I may, it looks like his right eye is sitting too deep in its socket *shrug*

Not fair!!
Not only do you drop a dynamite piece
on us.
You rub it in about the weather, in New York it is 10f now, with a snow storm coming.
Hope it rains as you are laying out the blanket.

hi guys. thanks for the feedback. i'm tending to agree with rawnrr about the eyes being to far back. not too tricky to fix. here a quick test. may take awhile too load. finally getting some control of this sack of potatos. its not perfect but hey

omg...lol Tjaden....when I get up from kneeling in front of your works I will continue being jealous and hating you :D :D :D :D

Killer job on the animation so far....I was curious how something like the robe would animate....and you did a magnifico job with it...and I love his wind up karate moves...definitely springing into action.

I know this is a relative question...but once you get it boned and rigged etc...how long does a animation this size take you to put together like this. And what program are you doing all this in..guess I am asking your workflow strategy.

Very refreshing seeing Yoda come to life via Zbrush...kudos!!

tjaden
01-14-04, 06:25 PM
Hey Ron. once he's rigged it doesn't take long to animate at all. it's all done in the character studio section of MAX which allows you to store motions as biped files. these motions can be blended together. you can use the arm motion from one file and the leg motion from another, or you can just transition from one to the next. you can also create a network of motions such as walk, walk right, walk left and then give the character behaivours like seek, avoid, follow path, stay on surface etc and the character will use the motions best suited to achieve these commands. you can set up a whole crowd of characters, give them different tasks but the same motion network and they all use it differently to execute their tasks. yoda's motion is just one motion file that was originally mocap data converted to biped format. so the workflow was pretty much just clicking on the "load motion file" button. :)

Hey ryter. it's a road safety ad i worked on. it's the only site on the internet with my work on it. it was mostly stopmotion with a few CG bits and i was involved in the composite team. you can download the movie from the site. it's pretty funny. the script was written by a local stand up comic. :)

Fantastic work!
It's also interesting to note
that he suffers the same fate as
most primates in their advancing years;
ear hair.
