An experiment with some new skin material (of my own devising) and some new render techniques. What do you think? Any suggestions?

What do I think? Hmmm, I think it is killer! :D

The skin material is wonderful! Care to share?

The eyes are perfect. The horns are awesome! I really like this one.

Now, for those render techniques...how'd you get it to look so soft, almost translucent? It really did render very well.

Very nice work Mentat 7. I like how you did the muscles, and just about everything. If there's anything I would change it woulld be the arm thats farthest away, I think its to thick.

Wow! I absolutely love the soft quality of the render!!!

With the cylinder used as the ground, it looks a bit like a miniature, and since miniature painting (mostly games workshop stuff) used to be one of my hobbies, I like that too :)

Oh, and amazing modelling too, off course ;)

That skin material and the lighting both give it a nice soft feel. Great rendering!

Mentat, I think you should do a series of these images, send them to a ceramic factory and have them made up in figureines. I can see dollar signs for you and your offspring into the future. You could start with a series of about 12 in different poses'. The beauty of this is that you can come out with a new series each year. Each series should be numbered so that they become collectors items. That is what I seriously think.
DeeVee,
Joe.

Hmmm....good idea Joe but unfortunately my physical modeling skills aren't all that great. Perhaps we can nudge Ofer into developing a plugin so that we can integrate ZBrush into a laser-lithography set up. Then I could just laser cut a sample model, create the mold from that and send it on its way! :D Sigh.....one can wish......... :)

If you were able to create a single polymesh out of everything you could export it and then convert it to the proper file format and you could then send it off to a rapid prototyping service to have a physical model made out of it.

Here's a link to just such a service, by the way http://www.poserbuilder.com/.

I've never used them, however, so I'm not endorsing them.

Of course it would be nice to have my own rapid prototyping machine, but they go for about $250,000 dollars, at least, and I usually don't carry around that kind of money. :)

Thanks WingedOne! I took a look at that. I am not sure they can hold the detail at the level I would want. I also estimated that a startup cost for each figure would be around $2500 + costs to cast each figure and paint them. Whew!

Sorry it was just an idea.
I developed a liqueur once. The bottle was a pirate standing with a treasure chest between his legs. I did a rough drawing and sent it off to Grovincroft in Scotland and they did a stone ware decanter for me. People were willing to buy the empty decanter, it was so well done. Granted that was many years ago and the company has since gone out of business, but I do not remember it costing an unreasonable amount. There are places in the far East that could do it at a reasonable cost. In my research the most expensive manufacturers were in the States.
As I said before, it was just an idea.

www.toybuilders.com (http://www.toybuilders.com) seems to have more reasonable prices.
