While waiting for the effects of Murphy's Law to wear off, :D I did a little something to occupy my time.

This is a logo I'm working on for my personal web page. The wings were done on three separate layers using the same ZSphere, but skinned with slightly different settings. Text was done with Elefont.

There's still a little bit of text I want to add to the bottom, so that's why the everything is sort of centered toward the top of the image.

As always, 121 welcome.

Hi Winged one......

As a graphic designer......I like the style of the wings.....wording......they look clean.
However your layout.......both compete with each other.....making visual chaos.....look to composition and placement

Would have to agree with ed. Everything is very sharp looking. Excellent! But they really do compete with each other with the complexity of both the words and the wings.

Hi WingedOne,

I would definitely keep the Wings, neat design-model-colors, and change the text for something less... sharp/3d extruded. Adding a different color border to it and rounding it so it fits more with the wings design.
And (hope i'm not TOO critic ?) what about a slight resize of the ratio of the image, somewhat more horizontal, panoramic to say so?

You have the makings of a great logo here. I love the clean style of the wings, but have to agree with the others that the superimposed text makes it all look a bit cluttered. :tu:

Thanks for the feedback everyone. :tu:

Is this layout better?

very cool... though i agree with the panorama effect and the competing comments by vincent resp. ed i liked the first one better... mayhaps put the original text (with addition) below the winged object, then stretch the whole thing? just an idea...

Idea???????????????a little lower anyway, and have the middle line stop before horizontal, then start it again for a bit underneath bottom line.....may need to incorporate white into letters

Hey Winged One,

The second image shows a far better composition (in my eyes) already.
The repetition of the golden texture in the letters is a nice touch too.
However i dont think the blue dots succeeding your text have much value - they even disrupt the composition of the picture.
I'd go for the Text beneath the wings in a centered position without the blue dots.

This is only my point of view :)

Have a nice one

To the WingedOne, nice model! I think there have been some great suggestions. My main critique would be with the use of "elefont" or any other calligraphy or script style of font. Just a personal nit on my part. I never use these styles for logo work, if I can help it (and I shiver when I see something like "Hobo"). A serif font could work, but since your wings already have a "serif" look, perhaps a sans-serif font would provide a nice contrast without competing with your 3d model. And as ed-t-a suggested with his comp, I would keep "WingedOne" well within the width of the wings. Perhaps a condensed sans-serif font could accomplish this. Then you can have a relatively large point size for readiblity, while keeping the composition tight.

Make any sense?

Btw, great idea using the same model on different layers with different skinning settings. I'll have to give that a try. :D

The abstract image is now cleaner with out the superimposed text, and I prefer the text colour in this version. Somehow though the long line of text and dots over the graphic doesn't quite work for me.

I think ETA's suggestion is the best so far. I might be tempted to try modifying it slightly though so the graphic element remains unchanged, but the text (in matching colours) is oriented along a smooth arc that more or less follows the bottom outline of the graphic above it. I would have said the text was fine (sans the dots), but it may be that when placed along a curve Adman's comment becomes more crucial. Dunno - difficult to say without tying it out.

Just two cents worth from someone who has never designed a logo in his life - so what do I know! :tu: :D

Hey,

hope you don't mind having fools messing around with your image... here's is my proposal : give more space at the sides, and as said i don't remeber who, could use letters less caligraphic.
One little other thing : try a negative effect of your image, (ctrl+I in Phtshp), and then you'll understand what makes to me a good image. I just love the colors you chose, and i often use the negative effect to make sure the contrast between colors is good.
Last : if you mind about the image, just tell me and i'll remove it.

I like the second layout better than the first, but I like ed_the_atom's proposal even better than that. Vincent, thanks for the great tip regarding negatives.

This update was as of today, 12/14/2002.

I think I'm finally done with this. I mostly went with Ed_The_Atom's suggestions for the last update.

I also added in a fog alpha.

The lettering was done by using the SFIntellivized Outline style font and placing that on one layer. I then placed a bluish/green plane slightly behind the letters on another layer and used the eraser tool to erase the excess blue plane around the letters.

As always, any 121 welcome.

one megadelicious and supercool logo, WingedOne! bravissimo and kudos on this smoothest of designs! the lettering is part. efficient - maybe its jpgcompression jaggies or my weak eyes only, but i think theres a lil bit of the erased plane left above middlebar of the "W" :)
