The following image is what I based my Z image on; I haven’t had much time for ZBrushing lately so bits of this image have been hanging round for ages. In the end I decided to forget worrying about it being an identical copy and just get on with it. William Hogarth is one of my favourite 18th century English artists, and this is his self-portrait http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1025214610xzx.jpg

The next image is the Z Hogarth kit plus an easel and chair made in Amorphium Pro as I wanted models I could reuse, so required the Boolean facilities of Amorphium. The main modelling of the chair was done in Z; you can see how I originally imported it from Amorphium.

The remaining modelling on the coat was done with the hook brush and snake hook. The canvas on the easel was a cheat brought in as a texture on a plane tool. When I was nearly finished on the post work I realised I had not included the paint pot on the floor nor the book and document resting against the easel. The next cheat was that I cut and pasted them from the original engraving, thanks for your input William. As I am more used to PSP for 2D work I used that for the post work. My painting is not great as an art teacher reminded me when I was about 12yrs old by saying, “you do good drawings and then wreck them when you paint them”, my confidence in my painting was shattered so I went on to sculpting.

very nice DAVE!!!!! and hey, you didnt wreck this piece......I am going to study this more and probably have a bit more to say...coz you put some good work into this. Funny how when we model what we love subject matter wise, the better our images seem to be and to get...I have heard alot of kewl stuff about Amorphium...I will definitely have to take a closer look at the program ..might make a great companion to the almighty Z :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:

As I told you Dave, I like the 'multi-reality' feel I get from this, that I think comes from the clarity of your painting of Hogarth, combined with the world on his easel just getting underway...It's like three seperate but equal worlds, like the old painters in the past always create in me...So what did your Art teacher know? :p

Nice job, and I love your pallette in this one especially!

Wow!

I like the way that It looks like a painting. I think its mostly because instead of using just one color (which would have made the pic dull) you used at least two colors mixed to make the wall. Great shading, and very colorful. Good work DM.

I adore your colour scheme. other than that, the painting has painstakingly succeeded to be a very respectable replica, and an advanced Zbrush piece in its own right

Excellent work! I am particularly impressed by the way you turned the crappy Amorphium chair into a replica of the original. Also, the final result looks like the pieces were painted, rather than modeled -- a very nice effect.

Terrific job!

I don't like that "advice" your art teacher gave you, but I do like this image. You sure proved that teacher wrong.

i guess thats something hogarth might have heard from his art-teacher as well - some of them really belong to that strange tribe once known as "spoiltalents"

this turned out as a wonderful z-painting and made it into my private z-hall of fame at first sight, Dave. utterly :tu:y! kudoskudoskudos :)

Excellent !!!! Great work :tu:

That is something that I do not understand. Teacher should inspire us to grow, to achive greater heights. Not break us down when we are at our most vulnerable. **Hummpff**

Makes me worry about my children :(

Hello DM,

Excellent, very well done!! Amazing how you transformed that simple chair into an elegant piece of furniture :tu:

Your work has a quality I really enjoy. In some people's images it's easy to see what is 3/2.5/2 D - but I can't do that with your's which gives them a unique atmosphere.

Thanks all for the encouraging comments, they are appreciated. In the Hogarth bits kit some things were missing, because I sometimes forget to save everything as a Ztool.
The paint palette was just a cylinder flattened and then stretched a bit. The brushes also a cylinder stretched then tapered at each end. The shoes were made from a sphere.
