View Full Version : Mesh question?
I'm doing a tutorial that says to "increase the resolution of the mesh" because the paint looks pixilated.
Well when i go to TOOLS>MODIFIERS>DEFORMATION and click DIVIDE button, it actually makes my picture MORE pixilated? Is there a button or setting i am missing? I also don't see the screen shot of the mesh like the tutorial shows? Any ideas?
Thankz for any help you can offer. :)

Try using the "smooth" slider, also under the deformation menu. You might need to smooth it more than once to get the effect you're looking for.
Shinzaho thankz for the suggestion but i already tried that. It did smooth it out. But i am wondering why when i push the divide button my pictures become MORE pixolated instead of less. The tutorial i am following says it should double my mesh resolution. Anyone know how to double my mesh resolution. I need to make the mesh finer. I'm confused

Hello Neoz,
The only time you should see any pixelization is when you are painting the object while still in edit mode. When in edit mode (you can still rotate the object) - paint is applied on a "per polygon" basis. the finest detail you can achieve is based on the size of the polygons. When you divide the mesh the polygon count goes up and the size goes down which will make the texure smoother. The divide button indeed increases your mesh resolution. If you hold your mouse over the window which shows your tool it will tell you how many polygons it has.
You may find it best to finish your model then snapshot it onto the canvas. Now all paint is applied on a "per pixel" level - zero pixelization (is that a word ;) )
Hope this is what you were asking.

Hi Neoz . . . Welcome to ZBCentral. :)
I hope this helps you some.
I loaded a "3D Sphere" in the center of the canvas.
I selected / Edit Object = "T".
I picked a "Color / White" & a "Material / Basic Material".
I selected "MRGB" in the "Draw" window.
I selected "Fill Object" in the "Color" window.
I turned off "ZADD" & selected "RGB" & adjusted the "DRAW SIZE" / all in the "Draw" window.
Then I painted three different colored stripes on the sphere.
# 1. Is the 3d Sphere at the default resolution / no dividing, you can see the painted stripes have some pixel effects.
# 2. Is the same Sphere that I divided TWICE / using the "Tools / Modifiers / Deformation / Divide", now you can see even more pixel effects.
# 3. This is the same Sphere & paint, after I used "Tools / Modifiers / Deformation / Smooth, set to 100 / "ten times". As you can see now the colored stripes have smoothed out even smoother than when I first started.
It's best to use a higher resolution object when your going to do hand painting on it. You'll get much smoother brush strokes. ;)
Have a good one . . . Mark.

impending and Kruzr, Now That's what i'm talking about! :D Damn thankz a bunch both of you.
Kruzr thankz for the step by step. Us newbies need that every now and then. ZBrush Rocks!
Help my printers out of ink from all the Zbrush stuff. :D

hello everybody, i am very new to zbrush and i read tutorials watching video to learn about this amazing software.
but still, i have a question : i don t see the "modifier" in the tool section but i see well the "deformation". i would like to increase the number of polygons of my mesh. i am using Zbrush 2 does anyone can tell me what s wrong???
Divide is now found in Tool>Geometry rather than Tool>Deformation
Also, don't forget to learn to use Projection Master. For most purposes it is superior to vertex painting.
