This is a preliminary experiment I did for an image I'm working for this round of the Internet Raytracing Competition http://www.irtc.org . The current theme is "loneliness". However, the main ideas for what I had in mind aren't incorporated in this yet, I was just experimenting with the background right now. I eventually hope to have a few alien creatures and one human. Pipes are multi-marker objects constructed with the aid of Muvlo's snap-to-grid script. They were then converted into a polymesh. The scale of this is intended to be larger in the final image. I also intend to work on this at a 1024 x 768 size later. I'd like to work on a larger size and then size it down, but the rules say resizing isn't allowed.
As always, feedback welcome.

I really like this, it's very original! And the entire room being red lends a feeling of alarm.

Trapped in a room with tons of sewage pipes all over... but no toilet!!!! Very nice Winged One, though I wouldn't want to be there.

Great depth. Good effect.

That's a great 'stage set' you've built no matter who or what you put into it later, W/O! :D
I have no 121 to offer, but when I saw this I thought of my brother who is a pipefitter, and I thought how much this would freak him out following the flow! :D :D :D
:tu: :tu: :tu:
Nice work from you, as I've come to expect! :)
hey WingedOne ... the forum thumbnail made me think of that incense-packed tour in Seven Days in Tibet, that you had to wait so long for ... heat and pipes and confinement, yeah, that is a good metaphor ... I don't know whether I would collapse it by introducing a particular being, the viewer is already in the room ... just my opinion

I decided instead to have a single human sitting in a chair looking out at the city. I started working on the final version of the background. I haven't gotten quite that far yet. I also want to "dirty down" the environment a little bit too.
I hope everyone is having a great time at the Macworld Expo whoever is there now! I hope to be up on Friday.
As always, 121 Welcome.

Cool...eerr...I mean Hot! Love this update...the cityscape is a perfect addition.
For some reason it reminds me of global warming. (But we are in the middle of heatwave in our city...so everything reminds me of global warming. :rolleyes :). The perspective of this room fascinates me because we rarely see interiors done in ZBrush. Excellent Work. :tu: :tu:

I like the setting. It gives an intense feeling.
Well done. :tu: :tu: :tu:
This is really great! I liked the first one but the cityscape adds a great deal. I like it! And would ya look at all those pipes...it gives me a headache trying to think of how you did that. :D

Adding the depth and city scape really added quite a bit. I really like it! :tu:

The colour you added behind the pipes has an amazing effect on the way the copper pipes look...This is really cooking now... :D
I also think the cityscape adds a lot, but I think should maybe be a little darker in feel...
Wonderful work, Winged One...I always enjoy watching your process, and your finished pieces never disappoint!!! :)

Here's another update. The chair model has been completed for the most part. It hasn't been textured yet. I had a little help from my Symmetrical Multi-Marker script http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=006310 to model this. There are still a few adjustments to be made to the chair such as making the back rest a little less thick.
As always, 121 welcome.

This is the final version. As usual, any 121 still welcome, since this is always a learning process for me.
I decided to get rid of the red glowing floor, because I was losing a lot of detail from the chair because of it and it was too distracting.
I also submitted this to http://www.irtc.org for their current round just before the deadline. However, the version I had submitted had no post-work, while this version does since post-work isn't allowed for the competition.

With this version here, I was just having some fun with the material/lighting settings. :)

Just plainly fabulous :ex: You certainly have a way with these types of images :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: Well done :)
Funny, I was just thinking about this picture yesterday! Wondering what you were going to do with it, if you were ever going to finish it. I'd love to have a 1280 x 1024 version of the pipe room by itself for my desktop wallpaper. It has a lot of dimension and the colors are fabulous. Only wanted the plain room, not because the rest is bad or something, but because for wallpaper I prefer simplicity. :tu: :tu: :tu:

I'm not sure (maybe its the lighting on the colors of the back wall) but I really enjoy the black and white version much better... I'm not really sure what thats supposed to mean... but I do know what I like. ;)
anyway.. I really enjoy the images.... great job.... I think one of the most intimidating things I can think of doing is creating a room with with stuff in it....

I like them both, but if there was a little more contrast, the monochrome one would be totally killer!!! :tu:

Good luck with the contests! ;)
They are both very well executed-but I agree with stone cutter about the monochrome image.

As requested, here is another rendering of the monochrome scene using better contrast. :)

The first and the last picture touch my soul,
and let my thoughts fly around! perfect!
Very nice W.O.The mono has an eerie quality
for me.
Very cool WingedOne, I like both the updated monochrome one. Good luck! :tu:
This turned out really great looking. I really enjoyed seeing it unfold, but the final color render turned far exceeded my expecations. The detail and texturing is really amazing on those pipes :tu:
I too like the color one but the newest update on the Monochrome one is fantastic too! Great job on both!!

That higher contrast version of the monochrome is almost like a brand-new form of computer art... :)
Wonderful job with the whole concept!

The level of detail you achieve here is amazing. I also found your spaceship post to be excellent. How did you make the windows in those buildings? Being a new user, I'm having a great deal of trouble making anything more complicated then a face or hand. What tutorials do you recommend for mechanical / geometric surface complexity?
Any advice from somebody as intense as yourself would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you. :D
