View Full Version : Have two alphas, if you want them, and maybe others can post some of theirs :)
I call the first alpha my Japanese Maple Leaf, because I made it after that.

This next one is cool, I call it my Thistle alpha (cuz that was what I was TRYING to make :D)
I will show a pic of how it looks too in different colors

Here are a few images of its use

hi kitty. here are some alphas i have. this is a range of organics/nature alphas. here are some thumbnails. http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200401/user_image-1073430775ufu.jpg
organics01.zip (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200402/user_file-1073430925ake.zip)organi cs02.zip (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200402/user_file-1073431048nej.zip)organics03.zip (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200402/user_file-1073431177jwa.zip)
i had to compress these quite abit so if there is one you like particularly i could send through an uncompressed version. still i think they'll be ok as aplhas. :)
Holly Cowl. Here I have been adding one leave at a time LOL. But I had started to do this last night. Hard on the eyes LOL, but you have a wealth of alphas.
I never understood their true value until I started painting.
Thanks
Here is what my leaves looks like when you just apply color, and before you fix them up with more alphas.

Try that ! (http://www.google.fr/images?as_q=leaves&svnum=10&hl=fr&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&imgc=gray&btnG=Recherche+Google&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&imgsz=&as_filetype=&imgc=&as_sitesearch=)
Zbrush accept alpha in color (just grabb the photo)or grey level !

Here are some very exciting ideas for alphas ;)
[intended for freehand painting or chalk/pastels]
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200401/user_image-1073460033uiv.jpg
Rather than upload the alpha files, I'll describe how I made them:
Fill layer with black Flat material
Set foreground color to white
Simple brush with Brush01
Depth = 0.01, Size = 12
Spray stroke with Scale, Color and Flow all = 0.1
RGB and Z intensities at 100%
Paint something
MRGBZgrabber
With the very shallow depth I used, the grabbed texture ends up showing more contrast than the grabbed alpha, so I follow that step with Texture :: Make Alpha
The above is just a basic recipe -- no need to follow it exactly
When using the alphas as brushes, play with the Blur and Noise sliders in the Alpha palette -- also adjust the Draw Depth as needed (shortcut "d") -- rotate the preview in the Draw palette to see how the adjustments affect the brush
These were meant to be used with the Dots stroke type, but can be used with other types
You can see I have pairs using the same kind of design, but with the second one turned about 45 degrees -- since you can rotate alphas in 90-degree increments, this provides some in-between rotations

Well, those alpha's DO have some power!! I'll never forget how andreseloy came up with his method to construct a bridge - from some alpha's!! :tu:
LOL guys and gals. Except for the sky, I have NOT been painting with alphas, but by hand. GEEZE. No wonder my eyes are so tired :D

muhahahaha..yes Kitty...I didn't go to sleep yet.. :) It's all your fault and Tjaden's...thnx Tjaden for the alphas...they seem to work just fine....experimented with them somewhat quickly and made this....snake hooked a few of my foreground weeds for a bit of foreground interest...but 99.99 percent of the backdrop was done with three or four of your alphas.....thnx so very much...they will be very useful tools for sure. I am no landscape artist but its fun to do one every now and again...
Weeds, grass, and a brisk night sky on a creek bank.....
btw its around 10 degrees here with a 2 degree wind chill....

many thanks, tjaden, they will not lay around.

Hi Ron
I am sure that you are a natural landscaper
Have happy landscaping!

another idea using nice alpha's like tjaden's:
you can turn these into stencils and use them the way you would use frisket (masking fluid) on a watercolor
stencils can also be inverted (the masked and unmasked areas switch roles) ...
keep in mind that stencils are "semi-porous" depending on the grayscale values -- so if you need a sharp edge you have to start with a black and white alpha, not a grayscale one

This one is just a baby one but it covers everything from quick and dirty grass, hair or fur to flames in a fire to making some interesting bump maps depending on stroke and brush. Hope ya find it useful.

Wow this is a great thread, thanks for starting it Kitty! Tjaden you have been very generous indeed. Actually all the alphas offered here are terrific thanks to all contributors.
I have a few that might be of use to some of you?? maybe. They are great for making into tools or using with the spray bursh.

Hey northstar. that last one gave me an idea. i rendered out 5 frames of the lightning effect in AFX. this set will give you a range of forked lightning alphas. you cal also rotate them and use them for crowfeet wrinkles around eyelids etc.lightning.zip (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200402/user_file-1073529773ppn.zip)

Thank you Northstar. I love the thread too. Have seen many like this when doing searches. And the idea has crossed my mind MANY MANY times why Pixologic does not allow us to download these (alphas, materials, tools, textures) into places where all can view them, instead of finding them haphazardly. Yes I know they have SOME alphas in Quicklinks, but by far, they do not have all the alphas, tools, textures, etc that us ZBrushers want to share. They can leave the work to us to d/l to the correct place if we want it to last forever for everyone. It seems like a logical idea to me.
But here are a few more of mine.
This is a branch Alpha
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200401/user_image-1073579295ooz.jpg
Next is a bark alpha, I did not make it, and I do not remember who did, but whoever did, did a very good job.
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200401/user_image-1073579643igb.jpg
because it is square, depending on what you are doing, you may need to use imbed.
I call the next one busy alpha
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200401/user_image-1073579883jgu.jpg
In uploading these to you, another thought for Pixologic (hope they are reading, and will consider). If you d/l to a special place for alphas, textures, ect, they allow the correct formats. For example, in alphas they allow only bmp's to d/l there.
Thanks all

kitty: obviously you missed southerns alphas, along with his ZScript!!
But, at http://www.southerngfx.co.uk/general/resources/zscripts/Zscripts.htm
you can have a look now - it is not all as bad as it seems, don't you think?? ;)
Besides that: considering that you may use nearly EVERY foto, pic you come across: would you volounteer to keep track of THAT database??
WOW Zerebrush, I did miss this...I have been to his site, a very good site, but I did not see this.
Um, I do not have DSL, cable modem, just dial up, so everything is slow.
Thank you Zerebrush, I could use this, as it is hard to keep track of them. I have them in a folder, but to show them in the forum I need to change their formats.
Good site, and I will be d/l'ing later. My eyes are so tired and swollen, it is unbelievable. Has been for days now. Do not tell Marcel, but his art of the monster going to eat the woman tied up (sacraficed), well later down in that he showed a beginning of that. Well, when I saw the small pic on the line above in the forum, I thought is was the national monument with the presidents heads, and where the monster was, I thought I saw daffy duck. Then I knew I needed to rest my eyes big time LOL. Truth is stranger then fiction. I clicked on it, and immediately saw it was my eyes cuz it was not daffy duck.
Thanks Zerebrush

Hi Kitty
You have a another simple solution for the Alpha files
Just export it Menu Alpha/export in a folder with a "Name" very definite like "ananas" for an alpha of ananas, "little_pretty_red_shoes" for a texture of shoes etc :)
Hope this help!
