View Full Version : A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR MR. BRAUN

I was somewhat intrigued with the head image Mr. Braun made using the cylinder 3D so I had a little time this morning and tried it for myself. This is the first time (I believe) that I have made a humanoid head from a tool other than the Sphere3D. I seem to recall another member that made a wonderful dinosaur the same way but can not remember who. The cylinder has its merits and I think I am going to experiment with the other 3d shapes as well. This is for you Mr. Braun! Thanks!

I have to say, it's a great idea using the cylinder. And obviously results in super models!
Love this one Mentat. :D :tu:
Cool, I'll have to try it out judging by your great model Mentat. :tu: :tu: :)
First class result, it worked well with the cylinder. I'm looking forward to the head you produce from the torus :) :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:

Here's another one. Just a note: The first pic was from a tapered hollow cylinder...the narrow end became the mouth. On the picture below the narrow tappered end became the nose.

Looks like you're having fun! Very nice results for both. I believe that it was KenB who used a Ring3D with less than 360 coverage to create a head with very large jaws (each side of the gap in the torus became one of the jaws, with the "back" of the torus becoming the rest of the head). It was a very effective technique, too. I'm only mentioning it because you said you were thinking of trying some other shapes. :)
Nice work here Mentat. When you experiment you can never tell what you will find out.
Well done.

OK Here is one based on the 3D ring tool. I kind of rushed this one as I was getting rather hungry. :D

I tried to do exactly that Dr. JJ but the program crashed on me at one point when I tried to make a new layer. Here is a composite of the head. It should give you an idea of what I did. It is designed to be viewed face on so there is no back. The ears were done separately. Basically I started with a very thick ring. Then I used symmetry to draw the ring of teeth. Everything else was moved and positioned in relation to the teeth.

Very interesting seeing the different objects used. Makes me start thinking about details that would usually take alot of subdivision with a sphere but could be done easier with another object.
Great job on all the heads!

I decided to redo the ring-tool head. I think I like this version better.

Well done with the torus, I've never tried that for a head. :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:

Hi very nice work...did you used texturemaster for texturing or just the normal brushes???

Here is one with the cube 3D. Wasn't quite sure what to do with it. Heads aren't generally cube shaped so I came up with this...AGONY CUBED. Just a little bit of fun.
PS...Hydra: I didn't use TextureMaster for any of these. I did all my texturing and painting after dropping the object out of edit mode.

Great improvisation! :tu: :tu: :tu:
Mr Braun did a really good one with the cube once, too. Lonnie, these are truly unique and spectacular!

Different attitude to common problems brings unexpected results... Did you ever tried helix-heads?
Great pictures, by the way... :tu: :tu: :tu:

A little fish head before bed...sphere3D... ...couldn't resist. I have been working on some really involved projects and these little side steps have let me breath and have a little fun. I'd forgotten how stress-relieving it could be to work on a disembodied head  :D ;) . http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1025061823icl.jpg
