Just had to do something to pass the time. In case anyone wants to know, this is alpha skinning (keys and "B").

Looks super Slosh. Do you draw it, turn it to an alpha then skin? Do I have it right? Or can you say? The gag been lifted yet?

Hey Deb, you draw it, MRGBZ grab it, then skin the resultant Alpha... :)

(And...Nice image, Brian! :tu: :tu: :tu: )

I actually made the alpha in MS Paint and imported into zbrush. I drew the outline of a key in white on a black background, then filled it in with various shades of gray. This made the perfect alpha (example below). Alpha skinnning takes that info and creates a 3d object. Also, a different render, with sharper shadows.

As a further note, you could use a scanned image for your Alpha, or in fact an entire image could be turned into an object... ;)

:tu: VERY cool stuff, Slosh! :tu:
---------------------
Are you using a slightly rusted metal material/texture, or did you add the rust afterward?

Hi Dave. Each of the 3 keys uses a different texture combined with a metal material. The Oval key uses the rust texture that Pixolator posted with his Golden Rusted Idol thread. The square car key looking one has a scratched metal texture, and the house key has a stainless steel texture applied.

Thanks for the info, Slosh.

All of this stuff will take time to learn, but I'm too excited waiting for zspheres that I can't concentrate on trying these techniques out.

Slosh my friend, when you do images like this it adds to the anxiety curve. Very well done :tu: Just fantastic :tu: :tu: :tu:

Thanks, Joe. Make sure you check out the Alpha Keys thread and download the keys. It will give you something to start with on the alpha skinning. For your part, I think you will find this most useful with the leaves and such that you do so frequently.

Sorry, but one last post of this picture. Someone mentioned (email) that I might want to eliminate the extra shadows. I tried it, and I have to agree. Much better!
