well i finally got the full version of Zbrush for Christmas. my demo days are over and i am enjoying saving tools, so now i don't have to do everything in one sitting.
This picture is my first real texturing attempt. I want to say a HUGE thanks to marcel, for the walkthrough of how to texture by using photos. The head and neck are 2 seperate sphere3ds. I used a photo for the base texture, but by the time i was finished, i had painted over almost the entire photo with various brushes. The shirt and signature were done in photoshop, but just about everything else was done in Zbrush. if anyone would like to c the head model before it was textured i will be glad to post a a few pics of it. i know this is far from perfect, but i am learning tons as i go.
Comments and tips are definetly welcome!

thanks everyone for the kind feedback! i can show other views of the head model, but since i use alot of 2d and 2.5d brushes, the model was coverted into pixols. i only textrued the front, because i was only planning to have a front view. once the photo was dropped on the model it look really bad, so i used a lot of painting with all sorts of brushes to give it some life.
wchamlet: yes, thanks for the reminder, i think i have about 30 of these saved at various stages, and i will be sure to keep u updated on what i m working on.
thanks again everyone!

Definitely belongs on the top row.
Keep posting, and show angles, and if ya want, we will all be interested in walk-thrus, or better yet, scripts :D
Many Blessings

here are a few views of the head model. it was modeled from a sphere 3d that was masked and divided to about 57k polys. as said before, most of the painting was not done on the actually 3d model, it was done after the model had been converted in pixols. so in order to show other views of a finished piece i would have to start all over again.

Hey Artboy, Great picture!
Don't feel guilty about using the 2d tools in ZBrush. Too many people put far too much emphasise on just the modeling. There's a bank of 2d tools to be used in ZBrush that needs to be explored more in depth!
Marcel's technique is really great and I've become fasinated by it myself! It's a great balance of 2d and 3d, which is what the program was invented for!
Your're doing great! :tu: :tu:

thanks guys! yes upham, i am not feeling guilty of using the 2d and 2.5d tools, in fact i find them extremely useful. i don't have any other experience in other true 3d programs, but really like the way zbrush works, especially for still pictures. It is really fast! i am tryign ot develope a syle that uses that balance between 2d and 3d.

Lately I seem to have developed a one track mind, but could you elaborate a little on the eyes, they make the picture.
A short description would be excellent.
Again thanks, fantastic job.

sure rtyer, i would be glad to. actually they were done with mostly just the simplebrush with zadd off. so basically just a lot of painting. When i was doing the eyes i zoomed way in, and actually was painting each pixel or a group of pixels. then i would zoom out and see what it would look like. then go back in and start painting. the highlighter brush really helped give the brgiht shiny effect, just don't go overboard. the original eyes in the photo looked nothing like what i ended up with, but i was fairly pleased with the result. thanks for asking. i will be glad to answer any other questions.
