I did this a hundred times 6 or so months ago and now for some reason I'm just not able to make it happen...I have downloaded the AlphaCentury script and run it at least a dozen times...when that didn't help me after thinking I had written everything down I came back here to see if there was a text version, which I found and have open now...

I think I am following it step by step but I'm missing something crucial...

I fill the canvas/layer with dark grey
I use the simple brush and whatever alpha I want to create the terrain

I choose the MRGBZGrabber and I turn off shaded rgb and autocrop.

I drag my mouse from the top left to the bottom right of the canvas...

So far so good, I now have an alpha but for some reason I'm not getting a texture...

Can anyone help me with what I've missed. I just can't seem to figure it out and don't remember if I did anything else last time I was doing terrains.

Thanks!

Edit:

And what is being drawn on the canvas with the simple brush is not being updated in the layer view. Is that normal? Maybe I have something not set right?

That's odd. When you use the MRGBZGrabber, you should see two white boxes zoom off to the Alpha and Texture Palettes. If it gets one it should grab the other. When you say it doesn't get the texture, do you mean no new texture is created at all, or it is black?

The two white boxes do zoom off...and I do get something added to the texture palette...the plain grey fill is all...the alpha palette shows the correct representation but the texture palette does not and of course it doesn't work to create the terrain on the plane because the texture is just a flat grey texture...I'm stumped...I was watching as I created on layers last night and I could see each stroke added to the layer as I made them...for some reason I'm not seeing that now...I must have something set wrong somewhere...it just doesn't make sense  I've bungled something somwhere...

Ermmm, nevermind...I figured out what dumb, nitwitty thing I was doing...doh...

When you draw, you must lighten/change the color of the brush before you draw....

Boy do I feel like a nitwit now. :D But, a happy nitwit.
