You might try this link (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=006161) which includes a ZScript for precisesly this purpose.

If you have Paint Shop Pro of course, you could export the picture as a BMP and frame it using PSP, which would be my choice. Although this comes complete with a range of its own ready-made frames, I find most of them too "heavy" and prefer to create my own from scratch using all the tools provided. Some very nice results can be achieved using multiple layers, selections and filter effects. Hayler's Heavenly Creations (http://www.haylerscreations.com/) is a good place to start if you want tutorials on creating elaborate frames with PSP.

A correction to my earlier post. The author, EZ, informs me that the link on this forum that I supplied has apparently been taken down. You can however find his picture frame ZScript (and other useful tools) on his own site (http://www27.brinkster.com/ezbrush/mainTools.html).

Also a little inexpensive program called "Splat" put out by Alien Skin Software, is amazing & very versitile. It works with Photoshop and PSP I think too.

Question: Did you want to create a 3D model of a picture frame in ZBrush?

Yes Jaycephus. Exactly.

Another quick solution Draw you form in 2D, Grabb it, Alpha 3D + Make 3D with smooth = 0
When you create the object take press the "Shift key" : as this, your frame is align to the screen !!!
You have a 3D model !
Your are free to modify to the infinite the 3D model in Edit mode :D
Pilou :)
Ps I put the 2' screen transparent for trying :)
Pss Ok, but what a beautiful frame around your TUT !
So you right, it was not Zbrush because I was pressed by the time :D
But Now a Solution in Pure Zbrush (point-lines) too ! Yes Zbrush can make lines :D
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1044010279bwh.gif

A little trick again : for erase on straight line : take the alpha n°0 and any brush but take the "Shift Key Pressed" Magic
Take a brilliant material as Toy plastic or similar :)
The next time more easy without Erase and more tricky is possible :) Suspense ;)

Here the solution of making frame witout erasing in only pure Zbrush :)

http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1044020252vfw.gif

And ever the "SHIFT-KEY" for aligne on the screen !
It's more practicle to assemble in Edit mode than with Gyro ! I you want keep the entiere frame, you must mark each element at the end ! And use the polymesh for make an only 3Dmodel!
Have good framing

Here is the easiest way...

http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1044026374ogo.jpg

frame from cylinder3D.TXT (1.55B ZScript) (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_file-1044026400npr.txt)

BTW-Be sure to enable show actions in the ZScript Palette and slow it down a bit.

I know of a fancier way..I'm working on it now. ;)

Here is a very long way but its for fancy stuff..This is the first time I have ever done this so dont mind the mistakes in the zscript. But it will give you an idea of where to start.

http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1044028352yfc.jpg

Very long and complicated frame.TXT (1.55B ZScript) (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_file-1044028401ixe.txt)

Why not use the Profile tool, initialized as shown below:

Be sure that Modifiers:SH is off, and Initialize:HDivide is set to 4. For a hexagonal frame, set HDivide to 6 (and so on - you get the idea).

Thanks, Frenchy, for showing the way.

ZSphere objects could be added to the frame for a 'carved' effect.

Hi Jay
You win in the category Classical profiling !
I have never seen that we could make a close form with a hole inside the Profile !!!
I have never idea to move both up and dawn points so i never see the hole :D
I have missed that :D
Thx

tried the profile tool, as per Jaycephus' post, cool execution.

Here's a few things:

In the deformation subpalette, rotate the Z axis by 45 and that'll get you a nice horiz and vert frame.

And for porportions, just go into Size and enter in the amount that's after the decimal.

So if your document is 1200 x 800, the ratio is 1.5:1. That means that in the Size catagory of the Deformation subpalette, I would just enter in 50 and presto! it should be pretty darn close to the porportion desired.

The uses for this frame technique is awesome, doorways (and this solves that problem for me :D ) and all kinds of stuff, not just frames.

This is such a wonderful forum and community.

thanks all!

Hi Jay,

Did you use the Cylinder3D? If so how could you see the Tool/Modifiers/Initialize/ZGraphs profile?

I couldn't find it, though.

Please advise,
Thanks much!

I'm pretty sure Jay used the SweepProfile3D tool.

Yes, I got it after all: Profile=SweepProfile3D. :o
Anybody has this Zscript please give me!
I can't figure out how to make a hole inside this Profile???

Thanks very very much!!

The points at the top and bottom of the graph should be away from the left side. See Jay's screenshot on the previous page. You'll see both the points at top and bottom are away from the left side. The closer they are to the left, the closer the endpoints of the sweep profile are.

Imagine the profile graph as an xz plane which you continuously rotate in as small angles as possible around the z axis, and you will get the shape.

As Keith said : Just move the up and bottom points on the right :)
It was the same for me (as you see on the up post :)

Do you have any ideas why the frame's edge does not look smooth at all? I tried Deformation/Smooth and Divide but...Also,
any tips for composing images/texture into the central of a frame ? It took me awhile using simple brush but you still can see the edge if you look it closely.

Zbrush is very interesting and Zpeople here are so kind! I feel life is wonderful! Thank you again!

there not smooth because you have it tiped a little bit.
to fixs it square the frame up right.
if you want to center a image in your picture frame just chose the 3D Plane tool and pick a texture :tu:

Rotate the frame with shift pressed to snap it to specific angles. I would also suggest painting first then putting the frame or giving the frame a higher z-order.

ZBuddie

that one your going to have to shift
tool : rotate (Z) 45
