I had to rely on Photoshop more than I wanted. Unfortunetly this piece gave me BIG trouble.

But, I think it was worth the trouble. :D

Turned out great, Kat! :tu: :tu: :tu:
It may have given you trouble, but the crucible of difficulty has brought forth an ingot of pure preciousness! Pardon the hyperbole, but the texture in the foreground articles blow me away, and I love the lil' biohazard doodah. :D
All around groove!

It really boiled down to the last step.

I had the background layer (everything but the foreground) and wanted to add the two large bonehomes with their glass windows.

But as you can see with the above link the addition caused Z to voluntarily render. I didn't ask for a render, it just did it and gave me the blue version.

I tried introducing materials in a different way. I tried rebuilding the tools with the materials saved in a second ZBrush. I tried baking, merging, NOT using those materials.

I always got this screwed up blue type (or worse).

I finally found the work around. But it was so unstable I couldn't do a best render. I had to take it as it was. No matter what I did, once those bone homes were applied, I could barely breathe without it rendering. Very weird.

For the record, I only used materials no textures at all. Lights, materials, fog alphas and 11 tools.

The tatoos had to be done in Photoshop. I had actually built those as ztools.

I really like the textures, most apparent on the front two "bonehomes". Wonderful use of depth.

By the way, Kathy, I liked your very nice article in 3D Artist this month! That, along with the other article on the same page, using Zbrush with Poser figures, and the inside back cover with Southern's ad, should bring Zbrush some greatly-deserved attention.

VERY well done!

Thanks Danny.
I am a lousy technical writer. But they had great people on staff that could unravel my speghetti thoughts.
