Maya Script Junkies?

If you are one, maybe you can help me out.

I've been looking pretty hard, but i cannot find a script to allow Maya to read .PNG images (if it can even be done? But i'm sure it can)

Would really save me some work, instead of alpha channel this, and connection wizard that, i can just slap an already transparent image right on, and be done with it.

Nope.

Someone needs to write a plugin to support the PNG format.
