The highlighterII brush is your answer. This, in my opinion, is one of the most powerful, and over looked 2.5D brushes in ZB's arsenal. And it is KEY in creating visual effects such as lasers, lightning, fire, smoke, glows, stars, lense effects, plasma, and other forms of atmospheric/volumetric lighting. If you read through the actual postings, you should be able to put my technique together.

Just some important points:
Get rid of any depth information contained in the image you want to add your visual effects to. Simply export your scene as a psd. Then re-import that same image, but before you due, make sure that you select the flat color material. Now the fun begins select the highlighterII brush and under it's tool modifiers option select "Main" This option lets you choose wich color, the HII brush will use. Now you are ready to paint with light.

Just a few more notes about how to go about painting your effects. Always go larger to smaller(brush size), as well as darker to lighter(RGB intensity). Also use the short cut (Ctrl 1) to replay your last stroke. For example draw a line with a brush of 30. Change your brush to 20 adjust color, alpha,to whatever you want and hit Ctrl 1. I'll try to make a little script for you.

Here's the script: quick_highlighter2_demo_01.TXT (http://www.pixolator.com/ubb/uploaded_files/user_file-1078322377cvn.txt)
Just another note, insted of importing a scene, I just filled the layer with the flat material set to black. Let me know if this helps any, and please don't be afraid to ask if you have any questions. :)
Also this works on any image you import into ZB. ;) ;)
P.S Never needed to make snow, I get enough of it here! :p
Oh what the heck, here's the image at the completion of the script.
