being mucho inspired by but having much too shaky hands to follow Shinzaho’s fantastic perspective tutorial (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=000458) i doodled with ZBrush’s "perspective distortion" option in the draw-palette this european evening...
http://www.cyber-webs.com/zbrush/perspective2.jpg

what i basically did was placing one cube (i had distorted at 63 while in transformation mode) above the other on a sphere3d background/basis. not being gifted with a rhom/Shinzaho-like detailbuddhanature i did not go for a perfect build-up of the "skyscrapers" and my explorations are very "on the surface" only, but i eagerly hope someone having travelled farther on ZRoad is willing to share her/his insights into this fascinating Zfeature!? :D

I think you are being far too modest Juandel you gots lots of BuddahDooYaa in ya ;)

I'd be interested to more revelations also, but to me this has all the elements

I like that you put it on a curved surface that makes the buildings fall away symmetrically and the perspective distortion and the way you have scaled down the farther away objects looks Voonderbar! (how you spell that in german?)

thank you, Digitsbuddha! :D
your comments always are wonderbra! nein: wunderbar! :D
it’s been luck to try this fisheyelike perspective first, as the sphere does muchomost to help gaining a perspective. hehehe: i just woke up from one of those Zdreams i’m having lately... the minute before the alarmclock shook me out of bed i found a neatofantastic "perspective stroke" type in the stroke-palette! this did the whole job all alone! :D :D :D i’ll try to find it when i’m back home this evening and then i’ll let you know...

Cool!

It reminds me a little bit of a fish-eye lens aerial photograph of New York City I saw once.

This is great. The idea of using a sphere was perfect. I've always liked the shot in films when they use the fisheye on the belly of a helicopter flying over a city - saw it once in IMAX - whoa!

Now that is WAYYY cool!

thank you for the nice feedback, ZBs! :D i hope to find ways to use the drawpanels "perspective distortion" function for building up perspective sceneries (not particulary fisheye) on a less goodluck- and more planned basis & will let you know about my findings. any shortcuts to go there would be highly appreciated! :)

quick perspective buildings using the perspective deformer. Wish there was an easy way to keep the base on the ground plane.

Hi John

You mention you have problems aligning the base of an object to a groundplane or could be any object. You might try this.

1. Make your model, or could be anything

Before you are ready to place it

1. Open Draw Pallete
2. Use the mouse to rotate the Preview window so that you can see how the object will be grown from a reference plane
if the object is not correctly orientated, ie. on its side or something, go back to the Tool:Modifiers :Deformations and use the Rot XYorZ controls to change its orientation. You will probably have to switch back in forth to the Draw Pallete.
In this case you want the building to stand straight up
3. Once you have the object orientated, find the Draw:Imbed scaler and change it so that the base of the building just barely intersects the reference plane.

With this accomplished use your mouse and drag anywhere on your ground plane and the building will grow up right from the base.

Hope this makes sense and is of help

Ditto to what Digits said; and here's another approach:

Again, previewing it in the Draw palette (perhaps ctrl-drag it out to the doc window as a floating palette?), move the MovZ (in Tool:Modifiers: Deformation) slider all the way to the left.

If this doesn't place the base on the ground, it's because the object was resized using Deformation sliders. Press Unify first.

:: And hey, here's a tip some of you might not know about: Drawing with the Perspective button pressed, but the Perspective slider set to 0, draws all objects on the canvas with a vanishing point at the center.

If I could read Pixolator's mind I'd guess there'll be future development in this feature. For now it's a fun little bonus.

And Juandel, the fish-eye perspective looks major cool.

I'll have to try that vanishing point at center thing out. Thanks for the tip davey!

this sounds like a mucho fascinating "lil" fun bonus, davey! :D thank you!
you too, Digits! great tip!
John, your "quick" buildings are beautissimo! do i get it right... they were done using tool/modifiers/deform/perspective? i’ve had some problems when i tried this feature, as the deformation even at low values is showing extreme impact... hmmm, as i think about it, it might help to use a high-polygone tool - right?

I'll forgo the technical aspect of this (since I'm not entirely sure yet of all the technical details ZBrush has to offer), but I can give you my opinion as an illustrator. The perspective is fantastic, and like Shinzaho mentioned, it has that fish-eye lens effect which makes it all the more realistic, and at the same time, surrealistic. The blue sphere gives off that 'Atlantis' feel to it. Caught in mid-ocean-burial? Wonderful!

juandel, the buildings are 160 x 215 division cubes inflated through a window grid pattern alpha image. I then colour filled the cube and quickly sprayed the windows blue and yellow. I then cleared the alpha and applied the perspective deformer(the value was about 20 from memory).
Thanks for the perspective tip, I was going to request something similar.
