View Full Version : INNOCENCE LOST

The forum for me has lost some of its former innocence. I joined for the simple pleasure of creating art with a great piece of software, to get help from the more talented members and give back what I could when needed. I want to get back some of that which had been lost as I still feel that there is no other forum like this one. Lets not tear it down.

Hi Glen. I think you are so right about not tearing this forum down. There's plenty of hostility in the real world already.

Glen (can I call you Glen?),
Considering your member number, it's obvious you have more perspective than just about anyone. However, I'll add my $.02 as a counterpoint.
(for you that would be... 0.0186028 EUR or 0.0123321 GBP :) )
I find this forum very helpful. I find that the people I've had dealings with very nice. Obviously as ZB gets more popular there will be more people, therefore the simple law of averages and human nature will bring the board "down" a bit. However, unlike a lot of other boards, especially those that are "run" by the parent company, I sense that a lot of the aura of this place is, and will most likely remain, driven because of the personality carryover of the Pixologic folks, not least of all Ofer.
There are ways to add a level of moderation to places like this obviously. Just look at a place like Slashdot. Perhaps if the population gets large enough Pixologic will have to look into it to keep some peace.
I feel like it's a local bar. You know a few faces so that's cool. Even the people you don't know buy you a drink when they are in a good mood, and you do the same. Every once an a while some drunk ass comes along that people either just ignore until they leave or pass out, or they toss the bum into the alley. As long as the neighborhood doesn't go to hell, it will most likely stay the same bar.
Granted, I'm still in the Honeymoon phase as I've had the software for like a month now. We'll see how it's going when I hit 1K. :)
I haven't dug around in the mud enough to understand what the most recent tizzy was all about, but from my perspective it seems to be a bit of an aberration.
I've been on boards or lists for software where I ended up being the graybeard like you are, and perhaps it's just a function of feeling the fact that you are in a position to _give_ more than you'll _get_ by nature of your expert understanding of the tool and the level of your artistic talent vis-à-vis the population at large here. That's just a guess of course. Your mileage may vary.
I seriously doubt that you and others like you are not appreciated, and I think the easiest way to make sure that the board DOES dive, is for people like you with a defacto leadership position to abdicate that position.
Face it, just like Shaq here in the ol' colony, like it or not you're a role model! :)
This ended up being a longer rant than intended!
P.S. Was this intended to be Jon Gruden?
Sorry, SuperBowl feaver and all.
[translation: Jon Gruden is the coach for
Tampa Bay (http://www.buccaneers.com/Team/CoachPage.asp?CoachName=Gruden,Jon) and his nickname when he was the coach for Oakland was Chucky because, well most of the time when he gets mad he looks like him!]

Hey, Monkey farm. Call me what you like buddy, I reply to most names these days :) ;)
I regularly take a break from online life and take time out travelling the globe (three times a year a least) and that, along with my family and my day job (back in the real world) keep my feet firmly planted.
As my mum would say, nothing improves an image like perspective, a truth in so many ways.

yup , you gotta love this forum , another terrific image Glenn.
The hair and eyebrows look great , wondering how you did it. (fibrebrush on eyebrows ?!? , painted every hairsprite ?)
they look very alike and different at the same time :)
there's one thing quite weird in the image ,looks a bit like a slipup with cloning tool from ps. The dark one and the normal one both have it , look at the center of the image , above both ears and below the first hairsprites.

*blinks, dumbfounded*
I think I am losing perspective ..lol
I am with ron though, I will help to try and keep this place pumping.
I hope this forum doesn't disappear! I rely on this board so much!
This is absolutely wonderful and love to know how to do the hair...

Hi Namek... it isn't that the board is going to vanish on us. But, more to do with a sense of frustrsation, hurt feelings etc over the actions of some people. Seems that that sense of "community" this board began with is slowly ebbing away - becoming somewhat, at times, like most other boards on the net. The "innocence" referring to a time prior to all this (not that it's prevalent here; just something that crops up now and again... to the detriment of all.)
There is no risk of ZBrushCentral disappearing or closing. And that's official! :)

Oh bless you matt! Such wonderful news.
And now the 'perspective' is coming to light (thanks filament9)
It is a little sad. ZBC is changing, not by what I have seem but from what I have heard from other older members. This is what glen means by "lets not tear it down." The only obvious damage that can be done is by the individual and once one person breaks the ice..more are bound to fall in. I will try my hardest not to be one to change our lovely community to he worst. :)

Something an old, and older friend said to me, a very long time ago... "you can't control how you feel. But you can control how you act." Sound advice I remind myself of now and again... especially when I'm having a tantrum ;)

There is nothing good or bad that thinking did not make it so.
O God! I could be bounded in a nutshell, and count myself a king of infinite space, were it not that I have bad dreams.

Great kiddy Southern and the 2 images juxtaposed have a sort of Norman Rockwell meets Stephen King feel.
I also enjoyed very much Monkeyfarm's bar room analogy - well ofcoarse I would.

Superb work and great sentiments Glen I agree totally, even though I'm not too sure how it used to be around here!
There is such a great condensity of super talented individuals here that there is bound to be friction... it is unavoidable. With more sharing and maturity among individuals those mountains can be moved. In my mind this place is sort of like the hub of all the best state of the art CGI. I get seriously inspired every time I frequent this place. From master to novice the learning and creative juices in this place flow like a river! It is too bad when one person can cause this much havoc. We have to go on and keep our heads up.
Bottom line is -don't pay the trolls toll-
Best regards,
Michael
p.s. I too like Monkeyfarms barroom analogy! LOL

Isn't that the kid from Stephen King's Pet Semetary! :)
Heya, Glen. Top work. Isn't it good also, that the 'feel-good factor' is back on ZBC, with all and sundry posting about again?
