View Full Version : Jumping on the bandwagon
Hello all,
I bought ZBrush a little over a month ago after seeing Pixolators, Southerns and Mentats pictures on various forums. I'd tried the demo 8-10 months ago and got absolutely nowhere with it. Now I'm not completely daft so I just blamed the software for my lack of progress and moved on. Fast forward to Pixologics 1.5 announcement, the limited time offer, Ken B's article in 3Dartist and some particularly striking images by Pixolator on CGtalk.com, and once again I was sitting in front of the demo version.
But once again the same untill suddenly, something happened. It was either the discovery of something called "Quicklinks" or that third brain transplant that did the trick. And now I'm happy. I've rediscovered that special feeling when drawing. The wonder of creating something quickly (not the "how the hell did I do that", the other kind of wonder :) )
Anyway enough babbling from me, I'll let you get back to waiting for tomorrow. You did hear about ZBrush 1.5 coming out tomorrow? Are you sure you didn't now it was coming tomorrow? Well 1.5 is really coming out Tomorrow. I... I'll shut up now.
Ps. The following pictures, in order of creation, were all made with 1.23b...Not 1.5 which is coming out Tomorrow :) .

Hey TVeyes, right behind you on that learning curve
Finally put in some hours browsing through the QuickLinks and now things are really starting to mesh
Nice alien head model ... I agree with Juandel about that lava ... I like the hazy sun too
Say, how did you do those cool letters?
Do you realise the price is going up tommorrow? The ZBrush 1.5 demo wont be out for a few weeks!
Time to reach for that credit card .... before tommorrow!
Great first image TVeyes. We'll call you "ZB-eyes" shortly enough! Great effort! :tu:

Welcome aboard TVEyes - nice first post - glad you persevered. :tu:
I think we all go through a similar learning curve. It certainly was the same for me. Started at God, this is confusing - then, OK starting to make sense - then a sudden transformation when it all seems to click into place. The QuickLinks is an excellent place to start, but sdon't forget about the manual - another valuable resource.

Glad it clicked for you TVEyes. :tu: Those are some really nice first posts from you. When I first saw the heads, I thought it was a 1.5 image that someone posted. It kind of has that 'look' to it. :)
The lighting on the volcano is really nice too.
I am very much impressed. I am also pleased that you decided to give it another try. I am certain a lot of the members here would tell you that they have been through the same think. Welcome addict #2302 :D :D :D :tu: :tu: :tu:

Hi TVeyes. First off, welcome to the forum. Second, your contributions, to the visual feast here, show your try, and try again approach to be worthwhile. Excellent stuff.
And I'm appreciating your sense of humor. :D
Excellent stuff, TV! I like the top head the most, but they're all spiffy! :)
I just bought ZBrush last month myself. Looks like Pixologic got quite a few new faces with the announcement of 1.5!
I first tried the demo when it fiiiirst came out like two years ago (or whenever that was). And I had not a clue as to what it was trying to be. I just kind of scratched my head, sent in a few suggestions by way of feedback, and put it down. It was only when the email arrived this June announcing 1.5 that I deigned to take another look, saw what people had been creating with it in the meantime...and registered it six days later!
So I'm right behind havran, right behind you on the learning curve, or the bandwagon, or whatever it is we're on...
(Oh, and PS: I've heard rumors of 1.5 being released tomorrow! :) )

Oh Yeah ! Nice first posts--good work!!!!-welcome to the most addictive club on the internet... :D :tu: :tu: :tu: :D
Thank you very much for the warm welcome, much appreciated :o .
Juandel : Thank you man, that was just what I needed. It's been a long week and your feedback hit just the right spot.
Havran : I'm a Lightwave user, going on 3 years, so those letters where created in LightWave and exported as an OBJ file. Imported into ZB and given the colorGlow material. The letters edges where accentuated by applying slight strokes of white with the normal brush (Zadd off, RGB only)
Upham : I think you misunderstood, I already bought ZBrush, but thanks anyway. :tu:
Flycatcher : Theres a manual for this thing? Just kidding, I've been reading various sections of it particularly Materials and Lighting sections.
WingedOne : Thank you, though your comments are not far from the truth. I was having difficulty using the TextureMaster script so instead I pulled the head into LightWave and "baked" the lighting information onto the UV texture map, using a radiosity solution for lighting. So not entirely 1.23b, ups.
DeeVee : Yeah, I'm afraid it is going to turn into some kind of addiction ;) .But I'm on this bandwagon for good, yeeehaw!! Next stop.....uhm .... preferably someplace warm.
Filament9 : Thanks. My Humor? I'd put that down to my third Brain Transplant. ;)
Pres : Thank you, yes I am glad I'm not the only newbie around. And yes, seeing what other people had created definetely swayed my mind too.
MrBraun : Thank you, looking forward to staying here.
JOHNVQ3 : Is it tomorrow? I nearly forgot ;) And thank you.
Northstarr : Thanks, but I'm not sure I've completely got the hang of it yet. Still trying to force ZB into my way of thinking. Many, many small things I haven't tried yet.
Muvlo : Thank you, it is also my preferred image.
sTING : Thank you, I just visited your website, very nice. Loved your interface designs.
robotalk : Wait a minute, a club? Addictive ? I want no part in it at all. Okay maybe a tinsy winsy part of it. Thanks ;)
Tomorrow.
